Such a good episode, the stuff with Anakin, the Grand Inquisitor being a temple guard, getting more Yoda! And now we’re getting to the real meat of the show, every episode has been good and fun up to this point, but pretty much every episode from this point is amazing imo.

It's a great one!!! So much good stuff going on! It gets real at this point for sure, I couldn't agree more!!!

In Legends, Malachor 5, one of the Planets in the Malachor System, was one of the last planets that was fought in the Mandalorian Wars, prior to the events of Knights of The Old Republic 1. It was nearly destroyed by the Mass Shadow Generator at the end of the War, but still survived. Only for it to be destroyed years later by the same weapon at the end of Knights of The Old Republic 2. I'm guessing they might be referring to Malachor/Malachor Prime. I really loved this episode and the introspection and reflection of Ahsoka, Kanan, Ezra, and even Yoda. The stuff with Anakin always makes me tear up. It was so cool that the Grand Inquisitor, formerly a Temple Guard, Knighted Kanan. In my mind he's a Jedi Knight now lol Really looking forward to the remaining episodes.

Ezra and Kanan teaming up again well at the start of this episode, once again showing they are progressing as fighters at least, and Ezra again showing an affinity with animals. Chopper not coming in until the coast is clear at the start, Kanan can read him like a book, he's not getting shot up for no one! :D Ezra mentioning to Ahsoka that Kanan stated that Anakin was the greatest warrior the Jedi had in the Clone Wars, kind of reminds me of that little tyke Petro, in the youngling arc, who clearly idolised Obi-Wan (don't we all!!); and I think amongst the younger Jedi at the temple then, Obi-Wan, Anakin and Ahsoka - who was as we've now seen, the most talented padawan of her generation - were seen as kind of a glamorous dream team for the temple younglings, as they'd mainly always be in the thick of the war, fighting Grievous, Dooku and Ventress, and pretty much always get the job done. Again when this aired, the last time people had seen Ahsoka, was when she was leaving the order and Anakin, so for her to mention here that she met him for the last time, just as he was rushing off to save the Chancellor, kind of blew fans away, as they hadn't seen that, and all sorts of thoughts went through people's heads about where Ahsoka was during Episode III. Obviously now with season 7 of TCW done, that line ties in beautifully with what we saw. Ahsoka probably would have been able to open the temple without forcing it open unlike the Inquisitors later, and I think it would have admitted her without issue, but I believe she is just being respectful. She still uses the force, just not here. The Inquisitors always finding them could be one of two things imo. First they know that our crew are always around the Lothal sector, so are able to sense their light through the force. Or when that little droid interfered with Chopper, perhaps they put a tracker in him as he is pretty much always with Ezra and Kanan on their missions now. Kanan getting his ascension to Jedi Knight which is awesome. The Grand Inquisitor taunts him earlier in the fight, saying 'is this the limit of your knowledge?'; this I think says that although Kanan passed his Trial Of Courage/Strength when defeating the Grand Inquisitor, that he still has much to learn, even if he is knighted. He wouldn't be a Jedi Knight at the height of the Jedi Order, due to that lack of knowledge, but these are different times, he is still doubtful that he is good enough to be a Jedi, and I think this is the force telling him he is on the right path as it knows its important to him that he can make it, as one. The Grand Inquisitor was once a Jedi Knight Temple Guard then. Dave Filoni stated he reckoned that he was present as one of the guards at Ahsoka's trial, before his fall as the Sith overran the temple and decimated the order. There we have it then, after all the portents about Anakin turning, and Ahsoka not believing them, or being in denial about it; she can deny it no longer, and must accept that Anakin has become Vader. You feel for her as the true weight of that insight, hits her. As Vader says here, his master will be most pleased with this discovery. At the start of the season, Minister Tua mentions that the Emperor is seeking something from Lothal, and discovering a hitherto unknown Jedi Temple is NOT good news! Yoda waving to Ahsoka is heartwarming. He did not like one bit how Ahsoka got treated by the High Council, its one of his great regrets as he is fond of her; but he knows that she needs no guidance now, she is master of her own destiny and a light throughout the galaxy. And yes Padawans of this time, are more in danger of veering towards the darkside, due to them having life experiences before they get trained. Even Luke is drawn towards the darkside as he defeats Vader in ROTJ and once again in the sequels when he has a vision about what Ben Solo is becoming. Ezra must overcome his anger and impatience if he is to become a Jedi Knight. About Malachor; I won't spoil what happens when our crew get there, but whats great about it, is that this doesn't come from George Lucas, but from a much beloved computer game! The creator of Rebels/Clone Wars/Bad Batch/Mandalorian etc, Dave Filoni, loves to tie in beloved stuff from the old expanded universe, or games that people were fond of; and Malachor comes from a game called Knights Of The Old Republic 2. Also, there is a lovely tie in with another game series, and Rebels : one game character was called Kyle Katarn who was a type of 'cowboy' Jedi outcast you played in several games, who was a friend of Luke. In those games, he tends to wear a pauldron on his shoulder, and I'm sure that was an influence in Kanan's design with his pauldron on his right shoulder and being on the run. Also in those games, Kyle has a pilot who goes with him on missions, by the name of Jan Ors; who is voiced by Vanessa Marshall, who plays Hera here in Rebels! Love that tie-in! Here is a snippet of them both just for fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajpE9aultU4

Ashoka still uses The Force, but felt it wasn't right to open the temple because as I posted in an earlier episode. She is no Jedi.

There’s a couple things that I noticed in this episode. First, it seems Kanan and Ezra’s battle repertoire is a lot smoother as evidenced by their fight at the start. Also it seems Ezra is more in tune with his special ability as he used it to call the tibidee and escape. I’ve never seen Buffy, but I know those two VAs are prominent in it, so I’m guessing there were some underhanded barbs in that dialogue. The Jedi Temple is the main piece of course, and it seems to be focused specifically on the concept of fear. Kanan’s fear is what Ezra might become, and the entire sequence is designed to reach him a master needs to learn when he should no longer shield his padawan and let him grow on his own. I mean, if you didn’t have hindsight, nobody would’ve seen Anakin’s fate coming… but not everyone is going to be him, either. The Grand Inquisitor scene kinda reminded me of training in the Matrix but remember Inquisitors were Jedi first - so that probably was his old job before being turned.I don’t know what happened to the real one after his demise, but I think the lesson being used here is effective: you still have time to change. Ezra’s got fears as well, but his are a lot less tangible, so Yoda spent more time giving him a history lesson. Also have you noticed Yoda doesn’t ever directly answer a question? He’s much more likely to ask another question that will lead you to the answer. Speaking of fear of the dark side, ironic that Kanan’s fear is exactly the mirror image of what Ahsohka is dealing with. I think it’s safe to say that on some level, she knows for sure now. But she has to be willing to accept what is, before she can deal with what’s next. Has she gotten there yet? Perhaps Ahsohka’s vision of Yoda as they ran out the door was just an encouragement for her to not give up. Ah, we’re already hitting the triggers, I’ll use “keep moving forward” today because it fits. Lastly, but not least, why are the Inquisitors finding them so quickly? Is there a tracker? Or worse… a mole?

Manny

Another place taken down. I wonder how they keep finding them. 🤔

kamenriderhime

Ahhh ok. Yes it makes sense she isn't a Jedi....just still sad considering the circumstances surrounding it!

Ohhhh interesting! Thanks for clarifying that! Oh the Anakin stuff was pure gold right! YES!!! Kanan is a true Jedi Knight!!! I can't wait for more!

kamenriderhime

Yes, I noticed they're both doing a lot better! Yes, Sarah Michelle Gellar is the star of Buffy and Freddie Prince Jr. is her husband in real life! Right, we know they love to focus on fears in the temple. Exactly, what happened with Anakin was tragic but just because some is force sensitive and has emotions doesn't necessarily mean they'll turn to the dark side! It did feel Matrix-y right! That would make sense that it was his old job. The lesson is poignant for sure. Lol Yoda never answers, he's always super vague and asks more questions, such is his charm! I'm glad Ezra got a history lesson - of all the force sensitive people here, he knows the least about the past. Yes Kanan and Ahsoka's fears are like two sides of the same coin. I think she's definitely aware by now, but acceptance is totally different from awareness for sure! Ahhhhhh that line fits so well here!!!!!!! Omg, it better not be a mole!!!!!!!!!!!!! >.<

kamenriderhime

Hahaha we know Chopper pretty well at this point! Awww that makes sense that Anakin and Ahsoka were the "Dream Team" for many up and coming Jedi back in the day. OHHH I keep forgetting that season 7 of CW was not out at this time!!! I'm sure that line sent fans reeling hahaha. Also good point about Ahsoka being able to use the Force, but declining here out of respect. Hmm, those are interesting theories on how they keep finding our crew! It was so cool to see Kanan get knighted!!! I think you're right that it was a good confirmation that he IS a real Jedi and can do this. WHOA, such a cool tidbit that the Grand Inquisitor is thought to have been a guard at Ahsoka's trial!!! Oof, yes, there's no denying it now for poor Ahsoka. Oh good callback about seeking something from the temple....REALLY really bad that things have gone this way! The wave is soooo sweet and says a lot! It's a dangerous time for Padawans for sure, they walk much more of a tightrope. Oooohhh that's such a fun tie-in about the game, thanks for the snippet!!! So much to look forward to here!!!

On the Grand Inquisitor and him being at Ahsoka's trial, coincidentally another reactor I follow, has just finished that arc yesterday, so I was looking out at the Temple Guards behind Ahsoka and when Anakin was fighting Barriss, wondering if the GI was one of them lol! This isn't him (or his force ghost) at the Jedi Temple though; the GI died a coward in fear. However because there is a connection to Kanan with him, and with Kanan overcoming him, its fitting that a representation of him Knights Kanan. He says he can only delay the other Inquisitors though which is why we saw them later; I don't think visions inside Jedi Temples would condone murder in their sacred ground! :D

kamenriderhime

Oh cool, good timing! Ok got it, thanks for clarifying that wasn't the real GI! I guess the spirit version would not be so big on the killing :P
