Hey everyone! Here's my reaction and review of episode 26 of the final season of AoT! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They CAN NOT keep scaring me to death like this!!!! After a SUPER TENSE scene where Armin and co. are really truly trying to pull off one of his so-called Grand Plans....things go very, very awry. :( I really got the idea that many of the Jaegerists, Daz and Samuel included, really didn't want to hurt our crew and genuinely believe what they're doing is the right thing. It's such an awful situation you guys. And watching Conny have to lose himself so completely as to have to kill those two....uggghhh it was unbearable. Not to mention THAT SCENE where as a mother, my whole life flashed before my eyes and I think I felt my soul leave my body for a second....!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!! What an episode, so intense and heartbreaking!!! Can't wait to see what happens next! Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

Hey! The "someone had to spill blood" scene was Armin and Conny actually remembering what Bertholdt said when they first captured Eren and Ymir and Armin and crew landed on Reiner's titan to confront them. Bertholdt was crying about what they had done, if you can recall. But "someone has to do it." Even more tragic when you realize Bertholdt and Reiner and Annie were little kids when they first spilled blood. But "someone had to do it."

It's easier when Floch, seems like the face of Paradis, to forget that mostly normal innocent people live on the island. The destruction of Paradis, is also genocide. One of my favorite moments was Yelena, asserting to Levi, that humans cannot be separated from violence. I mean they're all killers when it suits them aren't they? The same debate came up when Annie, confronted Mikasa, lin the previous episode. I'm not saying that I think Eren, should commit genocide, but I mostly see characters being hypocritical rather than actually coming up with diplomatic alternatives. I mean, so far nothing has changed, & I don't see how Eren, can be talked out of his current course by other murderers. Why were Daz & Samuel's, lives worth less than Annie's, dad? Why is Mr. Bruas's life worth less than Onyankopon's, family? Genocide being wrong should be a universal principal. One can't honestly be against the rumbling, yet okay with the genocide of Paradis:)

“So last week’s episode was intense…” Me: Trying to figure out the last time that wasn’t the case… 😅 Honestly, nobody’s hands are clean at this point and everyone’s in a no-win situation. You can make a case about why any move either side makes has some solid merit (even the genocide) and you would not be wrong: but for each path everyone can take there are also very good reasons why they shouldn’t be taken. The genocide is the most obvious of these subjects but it applies to a degree to all of the other choices as well. The whole idea is to make sure there’s no such thing as a black and white choice, apparently. There’s just a lot of shades of grey going on here. Darned if you do, darned if you don’t. I am thinking about what Eren said and how Reiner tried to interpret it: “I’m the same as you.” My theory is that when Reiner broke the wall he was doing what he thought was best for his own people: Eren is doing the same, he won’t hesitate to wipe out anyone opposing him if he thinks it’ll protect the people he cares about. There’s an interesting scene with the Azumabito leader and Floch. Obviously she doesn’t feel threatened enough by him to not speak her mind, but she’s not wrong, either: if humanity outside the island is wiped out, does that mean there won’t be dissenting factions arising within? I mean, even before any of us heard the name Marley, think about how much scrapping was going on inside the walls - without the Titans being involved. I think the reason Magath actually tried to apologize is because he saw Gabi looking at him torturing Yelena and then realized he was doing the same bad habits everyone else was and tried to turn it on its head. He seems to be generally concerned about her; I don’t know if he takes that step if she doesn’t catch him in the act. 🤔 Yelena isn’t wrong: “You can’t take the violence out of people.” That trait is always going to be present in humanity: world peace is a nice idea, but given the volatility of humans, it’s never going to actually become a reality. There’s always going to be someone, somewhere, stirring things up - and their reasons will make perfect sense to them even if it they don’t to anyone else. Just look at world history, current events, you pick: there’s more than enough data to back this up. All we can do is try to get along, but that’s easier said than done… I feel like this is a point of emphasis with the mangaka. (I think that’s the right word… I’m still very new in the anime scene compared to a lot of you! 😅) So anyway, I think the most stressing part of this episode is just how bad of a liar Conny is when they’re putting on the facade. I swear if he was playing poker all of us could call his bluff every time. And I don’t even play poker. Me watching Armin get shot in the episode when it came out yesterday: “Welp, I already know one person who’s blood pressure is about to seriously spike…!” You do realize as soon as all of us saw this, we started a countdown timer on your reaction… (A little secret: all your subscribers are really Grimm and we’re just here for all the emotional trauma 😂). You do it so well though! Also, I wasn’t too worried about him, but I wondered why he was waiting to regenerate and then I realized that he can’t transform or he’ll nuke everyone around him - so he’s going to take a little bit of time to recover. Remember when I said kids sometimes can be the death of their parents? 👀 I can already hear you yelling at him “hurry up and heal yourself so I can beat you to death for scaring me like that!” In all fairness though, I think on a scale level I’m least worried about him and Mikasa. As far as I’m AWARE, I think Episode 87 is the last one: which means only two episodes are left. Do not assume this knowledge to be official. The week after next there will be a break. What’s INTERESTING here is that my friend told me there’s about 9 manga chapters that haven’t been adapted as of THIS chapter releasing so I’m not sure what that means - if the end of the final season is the end of the story or if they’re planning on ending it doing a film or something. I guess we’ll have to wait until Episode 87 to find out for sure!

Manny

My heart was beating out of my chest this episode 💓

kamenriderhime

Ohhhh oops, I think I thought it was one of the guys we were currently fighting. That makes more sense though!!! Thanks for clarifying! Ugh, to remember that at that moment though.....!!!

kamenriderhime

That's the thing, like with any regime, it's easy to forget that there's lots of just basically normal innocent people on "their" side of things. :/ Excellent point that destroying Paradis is also genocide, so it comes down to whose genocide is more justified....and neither is, but then how does knowing that stop anyone from dying?! It's terrible. Great point about the Yelena/Levi scene....anyone is capable of violence under the "right" conditions. So true, just because we're trying to save our families and friends doesn't mean their lives weigh more heavily than Daz or Samuel's, or anyone else's. I honestly don't know what the right answer is! I know the Jaegerists are wrong, but you've got a point that simply stating that changes nothing to fix the current situation for Paradis. Which is kinda where we started at the beginning of this whole thing lol. Oof, I have a headache now!

kamenriderhime

That's the thing, there's no good answers!!! Right, Eren is acting very similarly to Reiner now. SO true about the inner dissention - and just a few eps ago we had Shadis actually telling them to rise up eventually one day, so we know that's a very real possibility, not to mention all the conflict going on before anyone even had any idea there was anything outside the walls. OHHHH that's why he was looking at Gabi when he apologized, got it. Yes, you got it - mangaka is the right word! And SO true, sadly, that as long as there are human beings, there will always be violence of some kind, on some scale. :( HAHAHA yeah Connie should never ever play poker :P LOL, oh, I'm so happy you thought of me when you saw that scene with Armin!! :P HAHAHAHA omg you guys are totally Grimm, but nice Grimm like Mike and Marty :P Yeah good point that he needs to recover. LOL I want him at PEAK STRENGTH for when I give him the scolding of his life for putting me through that!!!!! >.< Yeah, he and Mikasa are probably safest but I honestly don't know anymore so who knows! Gotcha, thanks for the update on the eps! That sounds right because I believe there were to be 12 eps in this half. Thanks for letting me know!!!

Truth

kamenriderhime

Awwwww yes may they rest in peace :( It's sad to think that none of the other side characters survived. :(

2023-01-15 22:47:10 This was a great but really fucked up episode. I love that starts out with essentially the 2 commanders scouting and trying to figure out a plan for dealing with the Jaegerists. I think it gives a sense of how outnumbered/outgunned they are even with Titans. Also seeing Reiner and Annie in the Scout gear is nostalgic. I like that they gave a good reason for the plane not being destroyed yet because if they didn’t I think it would have been easy to criticize as only not being destroyed for the story. I think it’s great that you can’t really tell what Hange is being shocked by because there is so much steam it basically looks like a storm is coming in. I’m glad I was able to figure out that was the colossal Titans either walking on the seafloor or swimming. Also the image of the colossal’s swimming is both horrifying and hilarious it’s unfortunate we might not see that part. The conversation started by Annie is so well written I love everyone’s part in it. Annie at this point really needs to know that she can rely on them in a fight. It fits Conny’s character that he’s desperately trying to find a way not to fight former comrades and jumps onto the 1st reason not to with Mikasa bringing up that they have to protect the Azumabito. I like that Pieck being the smart one understands their strategic value and the realistic explanation for what they need to fully use the plane. But it adds yet another obstacle in their plan to try to stop Eren which I think is great writing because it creates a more interesting story and allows the characters to shine dealing with this and otherwise we would not have as much of a story. I think it’s great to see Hange’s resolve to fight here because it not only makes sense seeing/knowing what Floch and his subordinates/comrades are capable of & willing to do but also it feels very similar to Erwin at least to me. It’s horrifying to learn that at this moment Marley is starting to be slaughtered it’s crazy to think how fast the rumbling was able to reach the mainland. Even though it’s a terrible thing to do I understand why Magath decided to torture Yelena because they are short on time. I think covering her mouth was partially to muffle her screams but I’m not sure he even wanted answers and was just angry. I love that Magath was changing because of Gabi and here he feels so bad that he displayed this behavior in front of her it allowed him to fully realize his mistakes and the wrongs he had committed against everyone here. I think his apologies here are great and some of it stems from guilt I’m sure but I completely believe in his sincerity here. However at this point it’s just words very important words for sure but still so I like how he shows sincerity with actions the rest of the episode. Not wanting to believe he’s just as bad as much as Marley makes sense since he does things that are better and some of it is real but some of it must be to help him sleep at night with what he’s done and he did want to change Marley. It’s so good how he realizes how wrong these people are treated and the whole we have to teach this terrible history to future generations is very much the whole learn from history or you will repeat it. I love that Armin will not let others dirty their hands for him when saving the world is something they all want to do it’s showing/saying they will fight and work together no matter what. I feel like we can all hate Floch as much as we want but that and how terrifying he can be is a testament to a well-written antagonist Isayama really knows how to fully use characters especially when he started with simple characters with simple characterizations. We need antagonists that are as much of a problem as Floch to make a great story especially someone to hate but also understand. It’s still so scary how human he is and how he believes everything he’s saying. I love how Kiyomi being experienced and knowledgeable about the world brings up something many of us have realized that conflict will never really go away. Also sure he likes the power a gun affords but the reason he doesn’t care is the island will be saved so nothing else matters. It’s amazing how Armin is playing mind games with Floch to make this really great plan work. I think he was counting on Floch being so confused and making it seem so urgent for it to work also. It sucks that they have to have this confrontation with their former friends & comrades. It’s crazy that Samuel a character who was in one scene and Daz were brought back for an important role and also survived until now especially Daz considering what he was like in his other appearances. Before we get to the really messed up/depression stuff I want to tell you a really fun fact Samuel’s full name is Samuel Linke Jackson literally Samuel L Jackson the Mangaka must be a fan of the actor. The tenseness of the show and this situation is shown so well with the facial expressions, close ups and what’s at stake. Them being suspicious of Armin and Conny shows that Floch was already suspicious and that they know them well. I do think they play off the suspicion well but then again I think Samuel & Daz wanted to believe them they didn’t want to hurt them either. The fact that Floch is not unintelligent makes him an even more dangerous antagonist. I love that Kiyomi protects her people with self-defense skills not only because it’s awesome but makes sense since she is a high-ranking government official and her country is the Japan of AOT. It feels good to see Floch taken down a peg for once you can hear the frustration and anger in his voice having been outmaneuvered by a relatively old woman. Everyone freezing when the gunshots go off builds the suspense so well. Mikasa coming in through the window and taking those guys out might be her most awesome entrance. Slamming the guy into the wall with the gun hard enough to leave a bloody imprint is brutal as well as the rest of the episode. Also when Floch announces the betrayal the sick SOB was smiling. I was more worried for Conny in the moment but the way Armin gets shot is brutal. I don’t think this was the intention from Samuel but from a story standpoint I love that this took away Armin’s greatest strengths talking to people. Also it’s crazy that besides not wanting to hurt his friends all the situations are preventing him from transforming it strategically didn’t make sense before and now would destroy the plane. Having Sasha and the plans to be able to expand their lands to have more food to share hurts & is so sad. And you can see Samuel shaking not wanting to do this but just no longer wanting to live in fear. Now Conny is seeing what betrayal is like from the other side. It's always crazy to see how effective thunder spears are and everything in the episode really emphasizes that they are outnumbered. It’s a good thing Mikasa had backup with precise head because even though she can handle it jumping at those Jaegerists was reckless. Also it’s easy to miss being quick but it’s awesome to see Magath wearing the Survey Corps uniform I think it even has the cape a physical symbol of his development. I think this episode and the whole show really is great at depicting the of battle. As soon as they said we’re safe so the others can let loose I knew we were in for some awesome yet gruesome action. The animation for Annie and Reiner joining the fight is so clean and I love how their Titans look I think it’s a mixture of 2D & 3D definitely for Annie but I’m not sure with the armored Titan. Also the way they enter the scene crossing in front of each other with the ODM gear is so cool. And then we get 2 lines that really summarize the show Onyankopon saying why did it come to this end Yelena basically saying people will always be violent which hits harder being said to Levi. And now we are roofing for Titans which is awesome because they are fighting for what’s right but that doesn’t make seeing all the death. Also it is surreal to experience the terror of the Titans from the other side. The entire confrontation with Samuel & Das after this is extremely intense basically being a fight for their lives and beliefs. I don’t think Armin while regenerating and struggling against Daz was not trying to hurt him but saying I’m not going to stop so either give up or stop me although Armin does look terrifying. And in this moment Conny is saving another friend. Also when he’s talking about being their friend I feel like part of it might have been saying I can’t let you become monsters. Also I believe Conny had to go through this to understand that saving the world is not going to be without sacrifice/bloodshed which is a reconciliation he has to make to be able to do this. It is chilling, absolutely heartbreaking and dark to see him shoot Daz and turn to Samuel crying. And then shooting Samuel multiple times feels like frustration/anger at the situation as well as survival instinct. Finally the way the episode ends with Conny screaming in pure anguish is amazing but so painful and dark. Once again the show is hammering in that nothing is clear cut or black-and-white and just because they are fighting for something as good as saving the world doesn’t instantly make things black and white. Much like Reiner and Bertolt they had no choice which they understand now and the idea that this could be accomplished without bloodshed was unfortunately not realistic. I feel so bad for Conny and the trauma he’s going through. This episode didn’t make me cry in the moment just tear up but it definitely made me cry after dwelling on it for a while. It’s brilliant but depressing. Great reaction and keep up the great work. :-) <3

Yes, such a great ep! The setup was really good. Annie's scene was so good and very thought provoking for everyone. Oh I know, Gabi's effect on Magath is really interesting! Yeah the different responses to the boat plane were right on point. And yes, the rumbling is happening so fast!!! So true that in order to really make the grey areas of this show shine, we totally need a character like Floch, as much as he drives me nuts lol. Armin's acting was *chef's kiss* here haha. That's crazy about Samuel's name haha! And good point that if Samuel and Daz were suspicious, then Floch had definitely caught on. That makes sense that Azumabito is kind of like the Japan of this world. Mikasa was brutal and amazing in this!!! Oh the line referencing Sasha and the food was devastating, and yeah, Conny is seeing the other side of what betrayal looks like now, dang. I didn't notice that about Magath wearing the Survey Corps outfit! And yeah Annie and Reiner looked awesome. Oh yeah the line from Yelena to Levi was poignant. Oh yeah, I hadn't thought of it that way, about Conny preventing them from becoming monsters. Oof, cutting to seeing him crying definitely hurt. The scream...!! It's so similar to the horrible grey area that others like Reiner and Bertholdt had found themselves in. Poor Conny!!! Brilliant but depressing should be the tagline of this show LOL. But seriously, I get tearing up and/or crying because it's just so thought provoking and ultimately a little bleak. I've gotta believe that somehow, even to a small degree, there will be some hope that wins out in the end!!! Thank you so much for all your support!!! ^_^
