Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction and review of Clone Wars 5x16!  WHAT?!?!!?!  Just....what?!?!!  I'm in shock!!!!!!!!!!!  I'm still just in shock at the fact that Satine's gone.  And that the world she worked so hard to protect has fallen into this kind of violent chaos.  To think I was cheering/shipping so hard just moments before....and then she just gets killed....?!!?!?  And we get a major reveal about her SISTER?!  AND Palaptine gets huffy about this whole thing and shows up to wreck stuff?!  Savage was another one we lost in this ep, and as sad as his story still feels to me, I had ZERO patience for Maul at that point.  Wow!!!!
I feel like everything happened in this ep, dang!  What happens next?!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

This episode makes me think back to the very first episode where you were introduced to Bo-Katan, Melissa. That was an episode of The Mandalorian called "The Heiress." I guess Bo-Katan was an heiress of sorts, being the sister to the duchess. One of those titles that makes sense only when you have the full context. Also, remembering when Bo-Katan asks Mando, "What do you know of the Jedi?" And it turns out that compared to Din Djarin's 'Nothing,' Bo-Katan already knew quite a bit about the Jedi. And looking at her in The Mandalorian, which takes place give or take thirty years after this episode... She's aged quite nicely, I'd say. Still very much the warrior she ever was. Another thing someone pointed out to me is that Palpatine's first strike against Maul and Savage was to pin them to the walls/windows, and they were helpless there. And then he let them go to fight them with lightsabers. He didn't need to do that, as he already had them dead to rights. He fought them with lightsabers, I imagine, for FUN. Palpatine is a twisted fellow, and in this age of misery that is the Clone Wars, he's one of the only people genuinely having fun. So yeah, not a nice guy.

Ohhh that's a great point actually! So true that Bo-Katan would be the Jedi expert of the two of them. And I wanna know her skincare routine for sure!!! Ick!!! I'd never even thought of that about Palpatine using the lightsabers on Savage and Maul. He's really living his best life at the expense of the whole galaxy >:( >:( >:(

You are right about it being epic; the directing for this episode & duel choreography are amazing! One of my favorite things about this episode, is that it's clear that Obi-wan, devastated by Satine's murder, but still doesn't give in to the dark side. Another interesting thing, is that Obi-Wan, asserts that Maul, was made into a Sith against his will, & we see him express grief over Darth Sidious, killing his brother. You can see that Obi-Wan feel pity for Maul, rather than hatred. This episode establishes Obi-Wan, as the ideal Jedi for many Star wars fans. You were also right in my opinion about the Jedi being more beholden to politics of the Republic than the core ideals of the Jedi, which is probably part of the reason why their vision was too clouded to see Palpatine for what he was:)

This is probably one of my favorite episodes of the series. So, Ian Ambercrombie was the Voice of Palpatine. He unfortunately passed away during production of Seasons 5 and 6. I think he has a few more lines in Season 6 combined with the new VA, kinda how we had bits of Mako and Greg for Iroh's lines when Mako passed away during production of Avatar The Last Airbender Season 2. What happened with Satine tears me up everytime. Obi-Wan really loved her. It was so cool to see Bo Katan in action. I can only imagine the pain and regret she must feel now. There was going to be another Arc about Maul, but unfortunately Season 5 was cancelled. And around 65 episodes in production were left incomplete. Of those 65, 13 were a part of what was at the time called The Lost Missions, which would be what is currently Season 6, and another 12 would be Season 7. So, the Maul Arc became a 4 part comic called The Son of Dathomir, which follows up on what happens to Maul after the end of this Arc. It can be read between Seasons 6 and 7 if you want to check it out. What a ride this Season has been so far. Really looking forward to your reaction for the remaining episodes of this Season.

Thanks!!! It was so epic, right?! That's true, Obi-Wan's resolve is crazy strong here. Also a great point that Maul was made a Sith unwillingly and Obi-Wan actually feels sympathy for him. I'm glad you agree with my opinions about the Jedi, too!!!! And yeah, Obi-Wan is definitely a great candidate for best Jedi boi, particularly after seeing this ep!!!!!!!!!!!

kamenriderhime

Nice!!!!!! I had no idea it would be so epic!! AWWWW that is so sad about Ian!!! Oof, I did not expect Satine to die here, it was so sad!!! And Bo Katan is amazing! Thanks for all the info on the seasons!!! I need to check out that comic for sure!!! Not sure how I'd react to a comic, but, maybe it's worth a shot?? Sounds like a big story!!! Wow, you said it about what a journey this season has been!!!!! I hope you love my reactions!!!!!!!!!!

Saltire

Ambitious Sisyphus gets his comeuppance, as Zeus comes down from Mount Olympus to teach him a lesson.

Saltire

One of the very best eps of Clone Wars, and a brief end to a fabulous arc, which has far reaching consequences. Obi-Wan is broken here, but unlike idiot Anakin, doesn't give into hate and anger from Satine's death, and thats why he'll become 'more powerful than you can possibly imagine', and Ani becomes self-pitying angry cyborg Darth Vader.

kamenriderhime

So true!! And it is interesting to see that the way Obi-Wan handles loss is so different from Anakin's, which leads them down drastically different paths!

Saltire

Both Anakin and Obi-Wan are very human Jedi in that they are relatable to us in a way that perhaps Luminara or Mace Windu aren't. They are both have their faults, but its like life, its how they react to their faults, issues and trials which is the major difference.

kamenriderhime

I could see that! And so true that it's not the faults, it's the actions taken in light of those, which makes all the difference!

Cody

All in good fun, but man the amount of denial on this channel could fill The Nile. XD even with the horrible stuff he’s done I can’t help but feel bad for Maul this episode, despite always acting otherwise, in the end he really did care about Savage.

2023-01-17 00:45:03 HAHAHAHA it's true though :P Yeah I know, despite everything it still sucks. He really did have strong feelings about his brother!!!! As with many aspects of the Clone Wars, it ends in tragedy >.<

They give Maul so much depth without actually giving a lot of his past. He’s up with Ahsoka as one of my favorite Star Wars characters. They take what was originally just a badass character with two lines like Boba and make him such a fun, interesting antagonist.

kamenriderhime

Exactly!!! It's so well done. He really is an amazing character. And yes, similar to what they did with Boba!!! Fleshing him out really enhanced the whole experience!!

Cody

Maul was one of my favorite characters as a kid solely cause he looked cool and had a double bladed lightsaber, but when they first revealed he was coming back in season 3 I thought it was really dumb. But they pulled off his return so perfectly, and everything with him since is great. I really hope they give him more in the future.

kamenriderhime

Yeah he always had a cool vibe! They did so well with the comeback, it could have so easily ruined a lot of his character. I hope they do more with him, too!!!

Cody

For sure they could’ve easily messed up. I think I mentioned it when he came back but nobody on the team had confidence in the idea, and it ended up bringing some of the best arcs of Clone Wars imo!
