Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to ep 1 of Kamen Rider Gavv!!! WOW!!! This was MADE for me you guys!!! The aesthetic is absolutely delightful! Our main Rider is sweet (pun intended) and seems to have quite the tragic backstory. (Ace called, he wants his mommy issues back!!!) I love the form, the gadgets/power-ups, and overall plot so far!!! I think we're in for quite a treat with this one ;) Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

If Gavv can keep this kind of pace, I think this might be my favorite Rider Show. First off... The fact that our Protagonist is actually an alien... Not a plot point that Kamen Rider covered before, but Saban's Masked Rider ironically did before. xD I'm really loving Gavv. First off I love the snack theme, and the other forms look pretty damn great for being based off Candy. However with how cute all the equipment is, I was hoping for a darker series. In my previous post I talked about how I wanted a Kuuga and W vibe(As in W vibes when it's lighthearted, slice of life moments... And to lean towards Kuuga's tone when it came to the more darker elements of the show. Considering this is about aliens infiltrating Earth and kidnapping people to make forbidden treats... I'd say that's pretty dark. So far it's looking great, and I didn't expect there to be a dash of 'OOO' in there. In fact, let's go extremely dark with my prediction of the series: They made Shoma eat his mother. Might be why his Gavv is 'special' and weird(though might just simply be the human side of his genetics). ...Though that'd probably be so traumatic. D: Shoma's a good kid, though him having super strength outside of the suit might be fun. It was already kind of fun watching him trying to kick ass outside of the suit. The trinkets this time around are SO cute... Like how, HOW did they make something cuter than Chemies so fast? xD I have to say I was sweating a little when Gavv loaded his sword because I almost felt like I spoiled this episode without even watching it(I thought it was going to be an episode 2 thing! xD), but I'm glad to see it fail.... This time. But come on! THE TRINKETS HAVE A LITTLE BIKE THEY CAN RIDE, THAT'S ADOWABLE! There's usually a trinket that can change forms, but there's also varients that adds power to the form rather change the form all together... Like with the gummies, he can use the Kick Gochizo to summon a giant gummi foot. Though the saddest detail about these trinkets is that they die when they're used up. RIP Vrocan #1 and Kick Gummy Gochizo #1... And I'm assuming alot of Jumping Gummy Gochizo from Gavv repairing his armor. I'm really liking the careography here as well... The action so far looks great, especially that bit when they're fighting in between the shipping containers. I was worried the Finisher might look a little weird from the preview images of seeing that big foot... but it looks great. I'm glad for the armor gimmick of this series though... No doubt the battle damage is going to make each fight a little more nerve wrecking. I just hope we see the right amount of armor damage... I don't think I'd want to see the amount of armor damage/repair that we've seen from this episode in every episode, while at the same time I don't want the gimmick to be forgotten about deeper we get into this series. As for the characters, they're amazing. That kid character has to be one of my favorites... He has just that right amount of self-awareness that doesn't make him seem 'too smart' for a normal kid his age or annoying... It's the right amount of sass. Holy CRAP that MOTW was a huge creeper though. D: It's bad enough he's kidnapping people, but did he have to act like a REAL *human* monster rather than a fictional one?! ... The actor did a real job playing him. xD Also, LOL. I think that's going to be their solution for Kamen Rider bikes from now on. xD Having the 'real' form be a Typical design for a Rider Bike, while the 'disguise' form is a road legal bike to avoid custom bike laws. ...That better mean the return of some bike action, because let me tell you from the few clips I've seen of Kuuga... The fight scenes were Riders can use their bikes to slap monsters around was pretty amazing, and it's a shame we've been robbed of it for all these years. Also the song at the end is the OP for Gavv... Not quite what I expected since it sounds more like an ED, or an OP from a longer running series with multiple OPs and they wanted to do something fresh for the new one. It's pretty good. There's a special Gochizo that comes with the CD for the OP, apparently it comes with stickers so you can put a sticker that has the name of an individual from the band... Or just the band name. Considering that I had to buy 4 of the same Sound ID core for the Geats Stage show due to this kind of gimmick... No way I'm doing the same here, especially when it's one of those big group bands with more than five people. xD

Also fun fact about Shoma's Driver. ...It's actually called 'Henshin Belt Gavv', so it's not a Driver this time... It's his organ! o: ...Of course that's just splitting hairs since it still does the same thing. xD Still it's been since Kamen Rider Decade since they switched to the "Driver" naming convention for the Rider Belts... It's crazy to see the end of that streak. Oh the thing about alien riders... It has been done, but I don't think the protagonist has been one. There has been protagonists who were secretly monsters or are technically monsters(Like look at the Showa era)... Just not aliens(Well maybe except Revice, I guess? Does that even count?). As for other Alien riders in the show... It's rare, but we've gotten a few of these over the years. In fact, you've seen one in your reaction! Remember Kamen Rider Ginga? ;D The Rider in Z-IO that came from spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace? How *could* you forget all about him when he's soo... Soooooooooooooo...... Completely forgettable. xD

Hi Hime :) Yes, Shouma is half human and half alien (Granute), I don't remember Kamen Rider fighting aliens so I won't be able to help you on that about an Alien rider ^^. Regarding the dark treats, we can guess that it happened thanks to the captured humans and that they seem to be interested in the joy of humans, but we don't know what happens to the captured humans. Any chance that Shouma's mother is alive ? We'll see. Now for his Kamen Rider form, I liked that his damaged armor could be repaired with "candies", but it will probably be too much work if they do that every episode so we shouldn't see it often, even if it's cool. Also, the kicking gummy reminded me so much of Fourze and the astro switches, which had specific powers and only equipped one leg or one arm of Gentaro. We'll see if it will be the same for the other powers. In any case, solid first episode and some really cool moments during the fight, like when they are both between two containers. All that remains is to wait for episode 2, to learn more about this universe and finally have the theme on video.

If u look closely at Shouma's henshin, when the gummies pop out of his body, a giant snack bag forms around him, like he's a pack of gummies about to be opened. Also fun fact: when you buy his little minion toys, the company made the toy packaging to look like candy bags. And another thing about his little minions is that each one is a one time use only, so once Shouma "eats" them, they die. So they're like happily sacrificing themselves for their maker everytime he henshins.

I've only seen the first episode of Build (same for Drive, Ghost and Ex-Aid). I started KR with Ruyki, I watched Fourze and Wizard after, but took a big break during Wizard. I came back for Geats and decided to finish Wizard and continue my catch-up. For the moment I'm more than halfway through Gaim, so I still have gaps on the shows between Gaim and Geats ^^.

So somethings that aren't spoilers. His mom was taken by stomach and is going to fight to get her back. They harvest humans to create dark sweets. An addictive drug like sweet they want. Every time he eats a new snack he gets a new gochizo with new powers. The words that appear around him are actually tangible. In the summer movie when he made his apperance he bounced off of gummy words. Lastly the writer looking into the monsters will join his crew.

AND ONE LAST THING-Well more like two. Gavv(The Rider, not the Organ)'s sword isn't a gummy/gochizo powerup... I'm going to guess that's a Gavv(the organ, not the rider) thing common between Shoma's species where they can spit up weapons that can deal massive damage. It also looks like a fruit knife apparently, which is ironic considering the last food theme Riders. Part of its gimmick is also a street, as you saw with the uh... 'Finisher'. xD And the other being the Legend Rider Gochizo. While it's still early in the toyline to figure out some things, what we do know is that they somewhat follow a pattern. The Hesei Era riders(Kuuga-Decade) are based on the Candy(Vrocan) Gochizo or one other snack that uses the same casing as the Candy Gochizo. The Hesei Phase 2 Era Riders (W-ZIO) are based on the Gochizo that you'll see in action next episode. There's only Ichigo for Showa, but we don't know the type of Gochizo it'll be. (Chances are, it's going to be Gummy). Now Reiwa is where it gets a little weird since they switch back and forth between(I thiiiiiiiiiink) two different types of Gochizo... Gummy and ...Well a Gochizo that has yet to officially reveal itself in the show(I'll let you know which one it is when it shows up.). Zero-One Riders and Geats Riders have been confirmed to be this... Mysterious Gochizo. Saber, Revice Gotchard Riders have been confirmed to be Gummy Riders.. ...But you might have just noticed I said 'Riders', since Reiwa is the only Era that gets other riders from the same series in on this action. There's Vulcan, Vice(makes the same sounds as Revice, I think), Live, I thiiiiiiiiiink Blades, Tycoon, Buffa, Na-go, Ziin, Majade, Valvarad, and I'm not sure but I think Legend. ...Someone hacked the Driver, so all the sounds are out there. I recommend listening to Zinn's. ...I wonder if there's plans for a 'Gavv' Gochizo.

Here we are! The first and JUICY episode! Kamen Rider Gavv is all about snacks. The protagonist name is Shouma. His surname is still a mystery, but according to leak information, there are 2 possible surname that both could be his real surname, but it might be a spoiler if I tell you. Anyway, he's not a human, as we all see. He a Granute-Human hybrid coming from the Granute world. Well, he has a Gavv, and his mother seems to come from earth and being a normal human, which mean his father must be a Granute. But we don't know who he is, or is he a bad guy? Some start to think we might not have a chance to see him, since Houtaro's dad never appear. Gavv is like a second mouth for the Granutes. However, I think it's work like a device. I saw that Granute Hound pull something out of his Gavv, and he revert back into his monster form. It could be assume that something is what he used to transform into human. The toy version of Shouma's Gavv is called "Henshin Belt Gavv". If you look closely, while inactive, Shouma's Gavv only has the buckle. It's lack the belt strap. Only when a Gochizo is consumed that it appear. That's maybe to portray that it is really his second mouth, an organ, not a device. Speak of Gochizo, they are snack-like items. Gochizo are monsters that are created by Shoma when he eats the corresponding snack. A single type of Gochizo can come in different flavors, and they can have different ability, such as Popping Gummy and Kicking Gummy. Kamen Rider Gavv: Popping Gummy form is his based form using Popping Gummy Gochizo. His armor are made of gummies. However, it can be damaged easily. To fix his armor, Gavv need to consume another Gochizo. And as you might notice, the Gochizo die after they are used in the Henshin Belt Gavv and fly off as souls with wings and halo in a cartoonish manner. That make us wonder, what will he do with the super form and final form? Maybe something that you can eat multiple time? Like cake or pizza? The name of the Gochizo is derived from the Japanese word for "treat" (ごちそう, gochisō). And may be after the phrase Japanese people speak after they finish a meal "Thanks for the meal" (Gochizo sama deshita). I think that would be fit as the line the belt speak after pulling out a Gochizo, but that's contradict the fact that it's not a device or a separate being, just an organ. It is said that one week later, a blonde gyaru finds Shoma lying unconscious in the bushes of a public park and tries to wake him up.… I don't know if you know the term Gyaru? It's like the japanese term used to define any fashionista girl. They usually dyed their hair and living a cheerful life. Nowadays anime has many Gyaru, such as "My dress up darling" which has a Gyaru as a heroine protagonist. And now we have one for Kamen Rider. Let's see how her interact with Shouma in the next episode. The song that they play at the end is the series' opening theme. It's name "Got Boost". Quite a unique theme and tone of Kamen Rider opening song. I kinda like it. Last but not least, Dark Threat. They are Granute's snake. And it's ingredient is Human happiness. That's what they tell us, since they need happy human for them. I don't know what the Dark Threat with cause, but it seems Shouma's mother strongly disagree with this and tell his son to not eat it no matter what happen. That's mean human's gummy is his first snack he eat in his life. But why are there so many Gochizo there? I don't see much come out when he eat. There are even Cookite Gochizo in that scene, which I never see him eat cookies. How? Ok, I think that's it for today, let see what he has in the next episode. By far, I like this episode. I really like when Gavv get into a little corner of the container and fight with the Granute there. But my favorite scene got to be the Rider Kick, and the scene where Gochizo seeing Shouma transforming, and they all said "UWWWUUUUUUU!!!". They are so much like Minions from Despicable Me! Fun Fact: This episode's title is a pun on the Japanese words for "sweets" (菓子, kashi) and "strange" (可笑しな, okashina). Also, Shoma's actor, Hidekazu Chinen, celebrated his 19th birthday during the filming of this episode. Gochizo: They are separate into those used to access forms and those use to assist. - Poppingummy Gochizo: Created when Shoma eats a grape-flavored gummy. It is used by Gavv to access Poppingummy Form. "Poppingummy! Juicy!" - Kickingummy Gochizo: Created when Shoma eats an orange-flavored gummy. It allows Poppingummy Form to use Kickingummy Assist. "Kickingummy!"

You know we’ve arrived at another show where everyone’s thinking, I wonder if anyone can hear you through the window right now, cause what you’re describing makes no sense… 😅 Obviously the most up to date plot line seems to be focusing on Shouma, who’s… an alien? Apparently this driver on his stomach is part of his physical structure… sure that’s easily explainable, good thing Hajime (the kid) asked him for a level of restraint. Oh, and apparently the candies cry all the time -wouldn’t have met at this distance otherwise. The one thing I picked up was that his mum told him not to eat candy from their factory, meanwhile this one scary individual is eating…. Dark Treats”? How much you want to bet this candy and Gavv’s mom are connected and their factory is in fact responsible for these “Dark Treats”? I’m just calling it now, before things get too crazy lil. Give it time… You just know the Japanese candy stores are already having a field day with this…

Hi Spadeas! :) Yeah I don't remember distinctly any alien ones either! Maybe his mom is okay! I love the candy repair but you're probably right that that won't be a recurring thing! Awww I can totally see the Fourze vibes! Can't wait for the full theme! I've never seen Build past a few eps either, also Spadeas I'd love to know what you think once you finish Gaim!!!!!!

I can't wait to know more about Shouma! Interesting question about his dad, if Hotaro is any example, we'll probably never know :P That's crazy about the second mouth! I love the snacks! The little snacks dying is so tragic and adorable!!!! It does make you wonder about final forms!!! I have heard the term Gyaru now that you mention it! The song sounds really good so far, I can't wait to see/hear the complete package next ep hopefully! That's a good question about why there were so many Gochizo there, depsite what we saw Shouma eating, hmm! I'm so glad you liked it! LOL they're totally giving Minion vibes!!! That's great to hear! Also crazy that this is something Masked Rider tackled but not actual Kamen Rider haha. I think that's a great way to describe the tone actually, and so cool that we do get a dash of more dark/creepy tones as well! ICCCKKK NO that would be crazy but SO DRAMATIC if they made him eat his mom :((((((( It's crazy to think they somehow upped the cuteness factor in this one, I mean a TINY BIKE THEY CAN RIDE?! Cmon!!! I'm so sad that they die though! Everything looks good so far, I agree! I'm, not sure if they'll keep the repair gimmick, it remains to be seen! So glad you're loving the characters too! DANG that creeper though, so true that we had to go into actual depths of human darkness creepy and not just leave it at regular monster creepy :/ Lol I never thought about it but that's actually a really clever solution to the bike thing!!! Hey, we'd get more bikes that way, like you said! Who doesn't wanna see monsters getting thrashed by bikes! I can see it sounding more like an ED actually! I like it so far too! Can't wait to see the whole thing hopefully in the next ep. No kidding about the CD!! Oh dang, that is quite the gimmick though haha!

NGL, I thought it was going to be a sword that someone gives Gavv, or something that he has to do a little more to earn rather than just like... spit it up like it's some speck of food that was tickling the back of his throat? xD But hey, they showed the Mini-Gohizo Bike gimmick on Episode 1, so that's fine. Well... Mystery for you. xD But I'm going to let the show at least show you it before I tell you which one it is. Thankfully that Gochizo is also showing up in the next episode. o: ...Also I think there's some weird stuff with Kamen Rider the NEXT and Shin Kamen Rider as Gochizos or something? Weird picks, but cool that they're getting a shout out as well. xD

I mean to be fair, Ginga only really showed up to be the next power-up for Woz. xD ...Maybe they should have built him up more or made him a little more of a bigger deal... Like he doesn't need to be a BIG deal, but he could be just a liiiiiiittle bit bigger.
