Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to ep 4 of season 2 of Oshi no Ko! WOW!!!! Not only did we get a really nice happy ending to the whole conflict between Abiko and Goa, but we got a LOT about Aqua here....omg!!! The trauma he's kept pent up is immense!!! No wonder it's hard for him to put a lot of emotion into things....if he lets that part of himself open up a bit, it's like the floodgates open. I'm sad to see him this way but I hope that he'll start healing now that he has people around who can help!!!! Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

Last year the subs in the opening switched from week to week. But now it's annoying people I guess lol. But it's not a glitch.

Hi Hime :) I couldn't help but giggle when Raida said he was ready to "suck" for his job, seeing as Raida sound like the way which the Japanese say Rider. So yeah, at this moment in my head, I was thinking that he wouldn't necessarily be below the desk given his name lol. Goa and Abiko getting along like thieves at a fair was cute, and as an artist, I confirm, a meeting of artists talking about projects and passion can quickly last for hours and hours in a blink of an eye. Kana didn't mean anything wrong (she doesn't know the truth), but yeah, it really hit hard... But I like the fact that we have a lot of Kana in the "good memories" of 'Aqua, even if her saying she's basically Aqua childhood's friend reduces her chances, childhood's friends rarely end up with the protagonist in shojo manga. Akane understood the whole story, she had already done half the work after all, but now she could help Aqua in her investigation, that's basically why he wanted her by his side after all. But one thing I told myself when rewatching this episode via your reaction and that of others, is that Kana will be able to make the connection too, via Ruby. If Kana talks to Ruby about what happened and what she said, Ruby will definitely make the connection and maybe bring it up with her. Not necessarily the whole story, but at least the fact that she and Aqua lost their mother when they were babies and if that's the case, Kana will really feel bad and will apologize, which will probably comfort Aqua who will say a little remark to her as usual.

Just as you have rants, I’m pretty sure I have a lot to comment on when it comes to this show (it’s pretty much my favorite thing you’re watching right now, no disrespect to the other material, but something has to be first, right?) As someone previously mentioned, the subtitles in the intro songs alternate from week to week - when you record next week it’ll be the Japanese lyrics, but the English phonetics - also I find the translations to the songs very interesting, they seem pretty spot on for the plot. Also, have you gone by iTunes for these yet? It seems Aqua’s ploy to get Abiko to realize she was out of her depth worked, but it’s really a one-two punch. First, he got her a ticket to see a play designed by the person she was having issues with - in other words, when you’re not sure what you’re dealing with, it’s not a bad idea to look at something else that person completed, in this case GOA. A modern day but classic example would be - would anyone who worked on the Indiana Jones films signed on with George Lucas without at least looking at a portion of Star Wars? The second punch was he pretty much put the onus on Raida to actually break through to Abiko - and getting her to attend one of his plays gave him the opening he needed. The dialogue they use is interesting and convincing because he pretty much used the same argument I’ve been - what works with one medium does not necessarily translate to the next. As Yoriko said, you need to be a bit more compromising. Overall it’s great to have the original creator involved, but the way he argued “there’s a chance we’ll do this exactly as you wrote it,” and then proceeded to lay out all the potential problems with that made her realize she didn’t know everything. So they finally do what I said they needed to in the first place, get on the same chat line. Some of those lines Raida was spouting though… lol now I understand why this airs at 11 PM. Raida has misgivings already about letting GOA and Abiko work so closely but everything is already such a train wreck, it can’t get any worse - and fortunately they hit it off. I think Abiko warmed up a bit more after starting to talk with GOA and realizing he wasn’t hacking her work and actually did understand her characters. The issue was what was being cut, was changing the core values of them, but he starts to pick up very quickly that she loves the characters, and it’s everything else that can be “doctored.” Honestly, I actually got a little nervous when I saw them both laughing gleefully while weiting, I’m like “I don’t know if this is making things better or worse… lol” Raida’ got a whole new problem on his hands now - the script is really good. But it demands a LOT from all the actors. But at the same time, isn’t that a good thing? Most of them see it as a challenge. Akane is particularly happy that her character’s back to the initial perception she had of her and Kana’s like, this is a lot of pressure. The real problem is Aqua and Melt, who are inexperienced yet have significant time, and there’s two weeks left before they start. Melt is freaking out, while Aqua has doubts as well. When Akane rehearses her big scene with Aqua the director points out he’s not acting emotional enough - you have to convey a bigger sense of feeling to reach the audience. You probably feel this a little yourself - you are an emotional reactor (don’t deny it, that’s why we stick around!) and sometimes your bigger videos are the ones that pack quite the emotional wallop - but you also probably know people who are a lot less “on their sleeve” when it comes to this sort of thing. Aqua doesn’t express himself well, he’s usually copying, so Kana calls him out on it, and boy she does not let up on the not so subtle Akane zingers - what’d she ever do to you? That’s just rude! 😅 Akane tries to be encouraging while Kana takes the hard hitting approach, but unwittingly strikes the nerve “imagine if your mom died.” Uh, girl, I know you’re trying to make a play for him but I don’t think that was exactly the reaction you were looking for… Aqua tries to think about happy memories as instructed, and the interesting thing is they almost all involve either Ruby, Kana or Akane. He does have good friends around him. But that glimmer in his mind of Ai has been dredged up and won’t let go…. It’s eating at him. Honestly I kinda get how he feels… I’m going through a situation personally right now where an event has occurred that wasn’t really due to anything I did wrong but it’s still eating at me regardless. Aqua had no way to save Ai but it still beats him up inside. In fact, it gets to him so much he actually becomes physically unstable on the rehearsal set and has to leave. Akane is told to go be with him because she’s his “girlfriend,” which she technically is, but wants to be… and Kana kinda feels put out again, but I’m not sure she has complete concept of reading the room here. I do think it’s an interesting callback that Akane hands him a bottle of water to recover the same way Aqua handed one down to Kana in S1, but Aqua doesn’t want Ruby to know anything about this (he doesn’t want her thinking about her mom’s death), so he has Gotunda, the director, pick him up. Gotunda is a bit surprise Akane is Aqua’s girlfriend, but nevertheless, he starts to spill a few beans about what kind of life he led and Akane is already the super sleuth she is, starts to realize just how much on the nose she hit it when she puts together Aqua’s age with AI’s murder and the personal tragedy and counseling - and realizes what the source of his PTSD is. Its not that he doesn’t care, he’s been internalizing all of his own emotions and “acting” like everything is okay when it really hasn’t been - It’s almost too much for her, which is why Aqua is rather confused why she’s crying when he wakes up. She pretty much solved the riddle but doesn’t want to make the same mistake Kana did by mentioning it again, and just gives him a hug - but if you look closely she also dons her “Ai clone” look to sound more comforting, and promises to be there for him. Its very much flipped from S1 where she was going through an extremely dark time and definitely wouldn’t have made it if Aqua hadn’t been there for her, now she gets the opportunity to be his “best girl” and isn’t going to waste it. She really is a gem of a person. Yes, I’m biased, she’s my adopted daughter, whaddaya want me to say!? 😂 As for the files on Gotunda’s computer, I’m thinking they may pertain to the previous projects he did with both Ai and Aqua that helped launch them… but those folders also reveal connections between them that a lot of people would be interested in, and if the wrong person got a hold of them, that might very much be a problem…. You rant, I comment, we both win lol - by the way, for some reason I always feel a bit smarter after talking about this series, do you get that vibe? Also I swear, this episode just FLEW by, it felt like half the time it actually went.

Mhm Aqua is a perfect example of why some keep it all hidden inside. It may not be a healthy alternative but there’s reason for keeping it all in. I would love nothing more than to let it all out but I don’t want to open up Pandora’s box. Gotta let little spurts of emotion out to make it less heavy. 🙃

Hi Spadeas!! :) Hahahahha I can't believe I said that now! Phrasing :P That's true about Raida/Rider too! LOL! I loved the scenes of them getting along, they actually have a great rapport! Kana for sure didn't know what she was doing with that statement, but yeah, it hit hard! I do love that Kana shows up in so many good memories for him! And I love that the friends he's made recently make him so happy. Akane put that together so fast, but yeah, she's already put a lot of it together anyway! I agree, that's such a good point about Kana and Ruby! She'll make that connection eventually too. I'm sure she'll be able to reach him as well!

kamenriderhime

Yeah I remember that, I just know it's been brought up a lot so I wasn't sure if it was normal or not lol!

crazizzle85

As far as the computer goes, I should have said that some of it is there to tease us manga readers and won't make sense yet lol. Like literally current events in the manga being brought up. But without context, it makes no sense and won't no matter what you do. So it's safe for me to point out. It's a neat gag.

kamenriderhime

I'm glad to hear that! No disrespect at all, something's gotta take top spot! Thanks for the info on the lyrics and the reminder about iTunes! Hahaha I love the comparison of this situation to someone in charge of Indiana Jones checking out George Lucas' work :P I'm so glad GOA and Abiko worked things out and got on so well! I totally get that there's scenarios where it doesn't always work that way though. LOL I love how he was spouting them so nonchalant too! Hahah it was hard to tell with the laughing but yeah, they hit it off! So yeah, it's interesting that this has led to a new problem - this is a much beefier script that's much more challenging on every other aspect of the production, including the actors. LOL yes there's something to be said for the power of emotion!! I'm glad you guys enjoy it :P It makes total sense that Aqua would struggle with finding that in himself when he's usually copying like you said. Haha Akane was fighting dirty there right! Oof, I know the picturing the mom dying suggestion wasn't intentional in any way, but ouch! I'm really sorry you're going through a lot of your own struggles right now, hope everything works out! And yeah, it was sweet to see Aqua cherishing those memories but his mind/heart just won't let him enjoy himself past the guilt of the Ai situation, which is so sad. I get why Kana was jealous but yeah, certainly there was a bit more going on at this point to be worried about lol. The water bottle was a nice callback and it makes total sense he wouldn't want Ruby to find out this happened. Hahah it sounds like you kinda love Akane!! I get it though, she's so smart here, not only in putting it all together, but knowing how to react with that knowledge in mind. Gotcha, thanks for clarifying about the pc stuff! Yeah you win on the rant :P But this one really did fly by!!!!

If you notice when Akane is comforting Aqua, her eyes revert back to the double stars that Ai had in life....it's almost like she's literally mothering him as she holds him. She gets the star eyes whenever she feels closest to Aqua emotionally.

Kana definitely still feels strong affection for Aqua and is insanely jealous of Akane. It's notable that when Aqua is trying to recall happy memories that Kana features so prominently, too. Definite love triangle.
