Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to episode 22 of Frieren!  Awww you guys we really got back to the formula of relaxation in this one!  We got to know our new characters a tiny bit better too, and see that maybe we have more in common than we think (like Denken and the restaurant choice).  I loved having the sweet flashback to Himmel wanting to preserve the food's taste over the years for Frieren, awwww!!!!  We even got to see a bit more of Ubel and the shadow clone guy too, so I feel like they're trying to do some character development before we move on to the next phase.   Speaking of which, looks like it's going to be tough and also intriguing!!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

A couple of things to reiterate from the last episode that I either failed to mention or need repeating: Serie has been explained to be a living grimoire . Take that for what you will. Denken’s desire to visit his wife’s grave in the Northern Lands is not that far removed from Frieren’s goal to see Himmel. It was also mentioned, that magic has to be visualized, in order to be effective: this is somewhat expounded upon in the conversation between Land (the shadow clone guy) and Übel, as she explains that she can’t learn the spells of someone she can’t understand. Magic in this world for the most part seems to have far more practical applications. Übel is… well, I’ll just say, I think you’re getting a slightly misinterpreted impression. Yes, she’s dangerous. Yes, she is capable of killing just about anyone. It doesn’t mean she will, though. I would equate her personality to be a lot more like that of a cat. It really just depends on how she’s feeling that day. Fern got upset not so much because Stark slept all day (that didn’t help), but he drank juice in the middle of the night. Without her! Oh boy… 😅 The whole restaurant scene just kind of reiterates the concept of the passage of time: try as one night, some things have to change, but it’s not always a bad thing. In this case, think about the restaurants you’ve visited that had to close down because the owners got too old and couldn’t do it anymore, or for other reasons - now think about what Frieren experiences over her lifetime. Perhaps that’s one reason she spends so much of her free time eating. Stark and Fern sure are getting the “couples” thing down - Stark even knows what Fern is actually saying when she’s off pouting. Hoo boy! Someone quick, give her another donut! Also apparently Stark really did master martial arts like that old guy said - although Fern renting him out like that… I dunno, she’s getting a little too carefree with him…! XD Frieren’s flashback to Himmel is just a play on the phrase “you’re not truly dead as long as someone remembers you.” In Himmel’s case, he just wanted to make a difference wherever he could. Frieren seems to have let that attitude rub off on her even if she doesn’t realize it. The next test is approaching, and Sense (the girl) is the proctor: which means the chances of success just went wayyyy down. (Also I’ll tell you this about your guesses about the next exam: it is possible to be both right and wrong here at the same time. 😅)

This was a nice breather. Lol I missed Stark. He does have a way of attracting total strangers. It’s always fun seeing that. I’m curious of the outcome of the next part. If no one’s passed whenever Sense acted as a proctor then how are they going to pass?? Hmph that’s a thinker. I need brain food for this.

Lol I did too!!! It's fun to see his interactions for sure. Exactly, they're really gonna have to get creative to pass!!! I also need brain food!

A living grimoire huh? Interesting!! I totally agree, in a lot of ways, Denken's journey mirrors Frieren's. Ohhhh good call about how the visualization thing related to what Ubel was saying. Gotcha, I mean Ubel hasn't killed anyone yet that we've seen, so she's not exactly a mass murderer.....unless I guess she feels like it that day lol. Hahahaha how dare he drink juice without her?!?!! LOL!!! That does make sense as to why Frieren loves eating! And I love the message that time passing, things changing, etc. is not necessarily a bad thing. Hahahaha Stark's learning all the signs with Fern, it's so cute!!!! Every man should know the signal to give his s/o more treats!!!!! Yeah Fern didn't seem to mind too much loaning out Stark, poor guy haha. Himmel's goals/motivations have totally rubbed off on Frieren, whether she's fully aware of it or not. I'm so curious to see what's going on with this test!!!! Can't wait!!!
