I bought a stair-stepper to exercise with, partly because it has a fairly small footprint, and I don't have much room in my apartment. But mostly because I was reading The Disaster Artist, and when Tommy Wiseau asked Greg Sistero how to lose weight, he recommended a stair stepper. The first time I used it, I felt like I wasn't really getting any kind of workout, so I just kept turning the setting up higher until it was set to max. And it didn't really feel like much of a workout... for about a minute. Then I was sweating like mad, and my legs locked up so bad that  I nearly fell off the damn thing. So uh... if you buy a stair stepper, maybe  work your way up to the highest setting.
