I just turned 36, the same age as Jenna. The first page of BCC was drawn in Nov 2011, and while it was still a few years before I started drawing pages regularly, it's still been 10 years since the series started. At the time the series was mostly written by Dr. Sharktopus, and I really just concerned myself with the art, but we did work together in creating the characters. We decided on Jenna being 36 because it's the youngest she could realistically be while having an 18 year old daughter and where if we did any flashbacks or anything Jenna herself would still be an adult as well. It just seemed like the ideal older woman age, and now that's just how old I am. As a result of the way the comic is written, it's technically set in the year 2011, since less than a year has passed for the characters since the story started. Still, I prefer to go for a certain "timeless" quality to the comic... very little pop culture directly appears in the comic, and technology is only vaguely displayed, and even then, Jenna has the defense that she's just kind of tech-illiterate, so if she has some technology that's anachronistically out of date it's just part of her character... sort of like how Jenna uses a flip phone, which you basically can't even get ironically these days.

With all that said, I just want to thank everyone for all their support over the years. I may not be a rich man, but I work on something I love doing and I make my own schedule. I don't have to go to team meetings, I don't have to make it to interviews, I don't have to deal with daily traffic, and these days especially, I'm not an "essential worker" who  needs to face Covid on a daily basis. I feel incredibly lucky to have gotten the amount of support to live happily just for this silly little dick girl comic. You're all the best.
