I've gotta say, being able to shape shift into a common housecat seems like a pretty sweet gig. You can easily justify just laying around doing nothing all day, and you could pretty much wander off at any time during the day and most people would just accept it.  For those who have forgotten, way back in the second chapter Kat was seen spending some time in her cat-form around Jenna's bakery, and Lily had started feeding her and calling her "Goldie".
