I've had a shitty day, dealing with medical stuff for my wife and traffic in the city, and the thought of coming home to have to work on this Side Dishes chapter made my already shitty day even more intolerable.

So I decided to say... fuck it. I hate this story. Of the many suggestions for the Amber's Farm concept this was easily the worst, and then the poll option that basically decided the entire story right from the start was also a huge mistake. I hate hate hate working on this. I'm sure you've noticed how rushed everything has been in the writing... I still tried to do the art well, but I"m sure you could tell my heart just wasn't in it. If enough people persist I'll go ahead and color this tomorrow, but if it's alright with everyone else I'll just leave this page half-colored. Even though I'm not interested in the story I'd still like to actually finish it, but the premise is just so bad I can't even think of how to end it. So with just one page left, what should the finale to this be? Because no matter what ends up happening... whether I change my mind and color this page properly once my headache subsides... I am ready to be done with this awful concept and move on to almost literally anything else, which means I will only give this one more page. Working on this chapter of Side Dishes has been the low point for me, art-wise, for the past several months, and fucking Tumblr got shut down in that same time. Working on this comic has been a worse experience than losing my 5,000 Tumblr followers.

Sorry, I try not to complain too much on here... I like the idea of seeming professional and acting the part of a workhorse on stuff like this, but this was just too much. This story was so bad that I've changed how I'm going to accept Side Dishes suggestions going forward. I hope nobody is too disappointed in me... but even something like this is a creative effort, and it's hard to express creativity on something you hate that you're really only working on out of obligation.

Hate to hear about the rough day man. But on the story side of things. Honestly, after the first poll, right out of the gate, basically killed the very nature of what the Side-Dishes "choose your own adventure" theme is, I was honestly surprised you just didn't use executive privilege to just end it right then and there on page 1. I get you wanting to honor the outcome of the vote; but that was such a weird situation to begin with. I really don't think folks would have held it against you if you canned the outcome and started over. At the very least would have saved you from having to mentally trudge through a story you don't even like and that frankly defeats the purpose of what Side-Dishes is about.

If you aren't happy with doing this then ending it here is a good call. I respect that you followed through as long as you did, but you are better off saving yourself the stress and grief this has been causing you. I'm happy that you put your foot down on this before you felt any worse. If you don't mind me asking, aside from the whole plot being laid out from the start issue, what was it that made you hate this so much? Did you feel that there was just a lack of story or structure? No way to be expressive without deviating from the winning suggestions? The ridiculousness of the transformations and how they come about?

Sorry to hear that, if you want to drop this comic then I say go for it. I rarely pay attention to anything not the main comic updates and pinups anyway, so if it's making you misrable then it's not worth continuing. I will say I'm only speaking for myself, though, and not for others, but I'm wanting to you and your family's happiness and health above any other concerns. If you're not healthy or happy, it really affect creative work, after all. If you need a break, I'm okay with it.

OddOneDown

Nah fam. Cut it here.

I agree with everyone else, ya don't gotta do a finale if you can't stand this whole story, just one more page is still as abrupt as cutting it unfinished. Or you could work it into a transition into something you'd rather do via the goddess of love transitional page saying this was the wrong story or something. I'm curious the same way Kenneth is, besides the big part of the story being decided so quickly, the premise and stuff that happens isn't all too different from the alien one and that didn't seem to bother you, I just hope whatever ya do next ain't so stressful and you can more comfortably say no to suggestions ya hate :)

Kill it man. Stop doing something you hate. Personally I'd much rather read something that you're having fun drawing. I'm not an artist, but I am a designer and spend each day working in AutoCAD. If I'm working on a building or design concept that I just cant get into, my drawings reflect that. So in short, scrap it, let's get back to quality and fun!

I too am curious about that. Not in a judgmental way, I just like having insight into your process and your ideas of what makes a story like this good or bad.

Nitewolf

I agree. End it. Especially if you are not enjoying it. If you want to do a final page. I would say have Amber at her ranch. All the cows and bulls lined up ready to be milked. But if you decide to not do another page and just kill it. I won't loose any sleep over it.

What was the way you chose this side story?

Mr. Gabit

I super dig the whole cow thing as it is my kink and all, but consent is far more important. I would love for you to revisit this tf type in the future so long as you were comfortable with it and had better creative freedom.

bananacreamcake

Yeah, if any of the other concepts for how this chapter should go had won I would have been much more happy. I think that's partly why I grew to resent this story so much... the cow farm setting had a lot of potential, and this is pretty much the least interesting version of that idea.
