So this is going up super late yet again, this time because I was watching Thor: Ragnarok... and also because I went out to eat with my wife afterward.

I really enjoyed Thor, but the narrative was a bit... weak. There were a lot of coincidences to move the plot along, and there were quite a few moments where stuff seemed to happen, not because it was the logical sequence of events, but because it led to some neat scenes. That said, unless you're really picky about that kind of thing, it's never enough to really take you out of the movie.

I think the reviews emphasizing how fun this movie is are right on the nose. Although it does take itself seriously enough for the plot to still feel important and for some of the dramatic points to hit, it's still mostly just a fun romp through space with Thor and Hulk. Hemsworth has always been good as Thor, but this feels like the first movie to really use his acting skills to their full potential. He's got great chemistry with all his co-stars, and he always manages to keep up the energy in a scene to keep things moving at a healthy clip. Overall there are just a lot of good performances in this... the villains stand out well as both being fun, hammy performances, though in distinct ways. If you're the type of person who resents the snarky, humorous tone the Marvel films have been leaning on, this is definitely not the movie for you. Also, if you're really passionate about Norse Mythology you're going to have a lot to roll your eyes at, but that's pretty much true of Marvel's Asgardians since they first appeared, so it's not exactly like there isn't precedent.

When I first heard about this movie, I totaly wrote it off, since I disliked the previous Thor movies, but as more trailers came out, I started to get more interested. Now, with people raving about it all around me, I definitely want to see it.

Yeah, it's pretty much nothing like the previous Thor films. Apparently in an interview the director admitted that he put no effort in trying to match the feel of the first two films.
