Hideouts & Lairs

Blue Dragon Lair

The gargantuan blue-scaled dragon Zolor Suneater has watched over the endless sands for eons. Travellers through the desert are rare, but those who do choose to make the perilous journey are warned to be watchful for a sudden darkening of the skies, as though the sun itself has been blocked out.

Zolor flies high above, too high for those without magically enhanced vision to see, but when he spots his prey, he dives suddenly with the sun behind him. Once you see his shadow descending upon you, it is probably too late.

Although no one is certain, it is believed he has made his lair in one of the ruined temples atop the peaks of the nearby mountain range. It would explain how he has never been seen at lower altitudes. Except of course when he feeds.

Ruin & Rebuild

Ruined Cemetery

The cemetery looks like it has been abandoned and decaying for decades, but one of the locals swears it was standing and in regular use only a few days ago, just like the nearby remains of what must once have been an awe-inspiring cathedral.

Others claim he is mistaken, perhaps a little too much ale and not enough sleep. Certainly, he looks somewhat dishevelled. However, he is so certain he is willing to pay anyone who will investigate and bring back some definitive evidence that he is either correct or has lost his mind.

Upon closer investigation, the cemetery does not appear to have been overcome by age and decay, but rather a force from within. Much of the plant life and foliage around the cemetery is withered and dead and it seems as though something escaped, or was set free.

Into the Wilds

Houses & Homes 03

Soldier's House - General Casimir Lionel was once a decorated army veteran, fighting in 3 wars for his country. However a moment of ill fortune and poor judgement led to his expulsion from the military. Now he makes a modest living as a bodyguard-for-hire and instructor for the local guard. He continues to train daily at home, and is also teaching his two young daughters the basics of combat.

Artists House - Cyntia Aspartin is a well known artist and sculptor. In the past she made beautiful works for public display and enjoyment, many of them can still be seen around the city. However for the last couple of years it has been rumoured than a wealthy benefactor has become her sole patron and her homes once open-door policy has become tightly shut.

Politician's House - Legislator Alru is only a minor member of the lower house, but has aspirations of climbing the ladder quickly. Their home is a mirror of themself, neat, tidy, a bit showy, and always ready to entertain and impress guests.

Worker's Houses - The Builders Guild offer 'free' accommodation to their members (in return for a percentage of their income). Although pretty basic, and often loud due the the proximity to the neighbours, it is still more then most could afford on the basic guild wage. However, the workers are a very tight knit bunch as it is, and perhaps putting them all together where they can make plans to unionise was not the best idea from the Guild.

I commissioned these 6 images from Andreas Rocha, a very talented artist who has previously worked on Magic the Gathering cards and many other high profile projects, for my Into the Wilds Battlemap Books.

As you can see, they are far too beautiful to just be book covers, so I wanted to share them with you in full resolution with you to use in your games! They make perfect splash images for VTTs or atmospheric backgrounds for when maps aren't needed.

Premium Adventures (Adventurer+)

Blade of the Fallen God by Alex LeFort (Level 8) -
A wealthy collector has recovered a clue that he believes leads to a powerful artifact known as the Blade of the Fallen God, and has hired the party to investigate. The party must venture through the wilderness and investigate the ruined remains of a despot long ago overthrown in order to find what they seek. But the magic of he who once wielded the Blade still lingers, and some believe that there are those who would see him return to power.

Naga Ruins by DMDave (Level 5, 8, 11 or 14) -
The characters must help a band of monks clear the ruins of an old cathedral of the dreadful, vengeful creature that lurks within.

Lizardfolk Village by DMDave (Level 5, 7, 9 or 11) -
Kraozzushk Mire has recently started presenting increased dangers to the denizens of several nearby villages. The characters must investigate disappearances that have all the hallmarks of lizardfolk abductions and put an end to an even greater threat lurking behind the scenes.

Frost Giant Pass by DMDave (Levels 8, 11, 14 or 17) -
A pass high in the mountains is home to a settlement of antagonistic frost giants. The party will have to travel through the pass without succumbing to the deadly winter conditions or provoking the wrath ofan entire army of 20-foot-tall warriors.

Ferrous Fists

Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement by a monk)

These wraps are embedded with claws crafted from a magically infused metal that is in a perpetual state of oxidation. Rust continually flakes off and falls away from them before harmlessly disappearing a moment later. For 1 hour after wrapping your fists with these cloths, you taste iron.

While attuned to these wraps, you gain a +1 bonus to the attack rolls and the damage rolls you make with unarmed strikes and natural weapons. Such attacks are considered to be magical. Once per round, when you hit with an unarmed strike or an attack with natural weapons against a creature wearing any form of nonmagical ferrous armor or shield, you can choose to spend a ki point to corrode the armor or shield. It takes a permanent and cumulative −1 penalty to the AC it offers.

Corrosive Missile. When you spend a ki point to throw a missile caught with your deflect missile feature, you can also choose to empower that missile with corrosive magics. If the attack hits, the missile deals an additional 1d6 necrotic damage while also corroding a nonmagical ferrous piece of armor or shield. It takes a permanent and cumulative -1 penalty to the AC it offers.
