Hey everyone!

This months creation from Abyssal Brews is The Salanek, Spirit of the Dunes! I will be collaborating with Abyssal Brews on a monthly basis to bring you new 5e Magic Items and Custom Monsters. Each will be themed around our current main map series. If you want to see more from Abyssal Brews, they release new custom 5e magic items, monsters and supplements over on their Patreon on a weekly basis. More information about them at the bottom of this post.

Salanek, Spirit of the Dunes

Long has it been said that the dunes of the desert possess a sort of sentience, a rhythmic pattern in their motions that speaks to the will of the desert itself. Those who travel the rolling waves of the sands know that in that sea of orange and yellow lies a beating heart.

The name Salanek dates back centuries, before the founding of the modern cities that dot the landscape. Long before man or beast sought to tame these harsh environs, the spirit of the dunes roamed shaping the sands to its will.

This creature is part of the Samarahd series.

This is a tough little bugger. But AC 17 at a CR of 21 seems a bit low, doesn't it? Even if it can impose disadvantage on you, at a level range of 15-20 you should be able to hit a monster with AC 17.

Only if you can get close enough without it burrowing or blasting you back

Ah, but melee fighters should easily pass the strength saves at this point. Then again, you can always adjust the stats for a tougher player group. In any case, Salanek has a wide range of really flavorful abilities. I like its overall design and lore.

Do you know of a desert adventure into which this can be dropped?
