When Lord Katamori took over as Daimyo he installed one of his chief advisors,  a Samurai named Arata Nobuo, as the Hetman of Iido. His role is to oversee the management and taxation of the town and to ensure Katamori's new rules are enforced. He has a small platoon of soldiers under his command to aid the existing garrison, but the majority of Katamori's force are kept at the castle.

Takano has targeted Nobuo as the first major target to start the rebellion, but rather than have the samurai killed, which would force Katamori to send the rest of his soldiers in response, he intends to humiliate him and thereby undermine the relationship between Katamori and his advisor. Nobuo keeps most of his wealth in a guarded storehouse outside of the city, to protect it in case of fire or earthquakes. This is a common practice among the wealthier members of society as natural disasters are common on the continent.

Takano's plan is to rob the storehouse and in the same night steal a set of armour gifted to Nobuo by Katamori from within the Hetman's home. This would leave Nobuo destitute and disgraced in the eyes of his lord. He would either be replaced, which would take some time and give the rebellion a chance to expand, or have to hide the loss from Katamori, leaving him open to blackmail and manipulation. If the party have sided with the rebellion they will be called upon to undertake the thefts, as they are unknown and can't be traced back to Takano if caught.

Due to the recent rumours of rebellion and knowledge of general the hatred for Katamori, Nobuo suspects there may be some foul play aimed towards him. If the party have chosen to side with the nobles they may be tasked to protect the Hetman's home and check in on the storehouse as well.

This is the second set in a short series of map sets that will form an entire Feudal Eastern Asian inspired town. This could be an alternative 'Starter Town' to the more european inspired Ostenwold set, or be placed anywhere in your campaign where you want to provide a different flavour or cultural experience. These maps were created as a commission for an L5R campaign, and the client has kindly allowed me to share them with you.

Use the link at the top of this post to download the day, night & snow variants of the map set in Print and/or VTT format.

Is there an easy way to "download all" on dropbox?

tomcartos

If you select a folder or multiple folders and then choose download from the menu on the right, all of the files in those folders will be downloaded as a Zip file.

\o/ nice!

This is great! We have an overabundance of classic forest/inn/dungeon maps on the web, but maps for Japan, etc are really rare! I am hoping we get more Japan themed maps! One with a typical Japanese in-town street would be great!

I'm trying to figure out which room does what. I assume kitchen in the upper left, great hall/reception room center top, then two toilets? I'm not clear on what the top one is. Then I think that would be the private quarters of the samurai and his family with an extensive library, then a teahouse bottom right. Bottom left is a bath house, and then... either a guest house or servant's quarters. And are those closets above that?

tomcartos

Yep all pretty much correct! The top room of the toilets is a small wash room with a basin of water.
