Shanks and the other emperors are Peers of Whitebeard but because as you saw Whitebeard wasn't in very good health even before the fight. So they aren't above Whitebeard but they are stronger just because they aren't in such poor health.

Ruff, hope you see this. Since you're going to be going through the manga soon, pay special attention to Buggy's flashback during the Orange Town arc. You might be surprised who scolds Buggy and Shanks during their argument. Because the anime didn't know what Oda knew, they really changed this specific character's design. I think you'll be gobsmacked. Also, enjoy learning about a certain name drop after Baratie (Sanji's arc) you wouldn't expect. I don't want to take away from the joy of rediscovery by being explicit. Have fun on the read! :)

ugh this arc is so gud. and yeah avoid everything Kaido online if you can. You'll get some set up for the second half of onepiece soon but u'r back in a long phase about the straw hats cause we just had a long phase about the world. Oda mixes up the coverage of that so well

Kaido has been mentioned to be one of the reasons moriah no longer has his crew and instead uses shadow people back in thriller bark, alsono its not like shanks is stronger than whitebeard for them to listen to him and stop the war, its more so the fact they already faced one yonko crew, with all their forces even they cant survive another one being Shanks and his crew. If one of the 4 Yonko show up one needs to stfu, assess the situation and do as they say.

*Slow clap* I know this is gonna sound super sarcastic reading, but I swear I'm not. I'm so impressed and happy that Ruff made the connection to Koby freaking out and the mantra from Skypiea. Seems like a lot of people forget that Skypeia's the first place we saw that. Not that Oda makes it entirely obvious, which is not a bad thing. Oda's writing rewards those who pay attention and the re-read value is insane. Freaking Goda at work.

One thing that I felt become very clear this arc is that the Navy isn't a monolith. We've seen that even within the Marines there are a range of sub-factions with different philosophies about what Justice means. On one half of the spectrum you've got a really dualistic, brutal Justice, one that fanatically believes that the World Government is infallible and beyond questioning. This is where the wingnut fundamentalists like Akainu, Doberman, and Onigumo are. On the other half of the spectrum we have a more merciful Justice, that doesn't agree with the World Government (yet forced to obey). This half is where marines like Smoker, Tashigi, T-Bone, Aokiji, Garp and Sengoku exist. Every marine falls somewhere on that spectrum, with their own personal motivations somehow entangled with their personal views on the WG and what Justice means. Oda somehow has managed to bring that realism to One Piece without beating us over the heads with it and explicitly saying it. Simply by introducing us to characters across the spectrum He's also demonstrated the horrors that can occur as a result of inaction towards actual evil, the Celestial Dragons, when the system and the state's law enforcement protects those who are not held responsible for their actions. Despite being at the mercy of the World Government's whims, the Navy also protect people. Like any organization, corruption has infected their ranks, but pirates kill, ravage and pillage and someone needs to stop them. Luffy isn't Superman. He can't be everywhere at once. There's two worlds that need to be supported here. Two viewpoints, both valuable. Those who want pure freedom on the seas, the pirates... and those who want civilization and order, the regular folks living on these islands. As long as pirates don't fuck with civilians, the navy should leave them alone. But they don't so they don't. And that comes with all the World Government garbage too, unfortunately.
