Not all that high concept. I started sketching a quick extra thick girl, a bit shy & trying to be a bit low key about some recent changes. And I went back to experimenting with how much I stylize the eyes. While I do have weeb-leanings, I‘ve never wanted to ever go full-anime, & worry sometimes that whenever I get close, I’m reverting to a much younger me, freehanding old extremely low res Toriyama rips instead of actually practicing.
Here, instead of worrying, I decided to kind of embrace that just a bit by almost making it of that era. Probably a little too much honestly. In my head, I was trying to capture some kind of very loose retro sort of vibe. From her weird ‘Kaiju before Pacific Rim’ shirt & high socks, to the straight google translate rip of a word that only sort of applies, but is maybe just a little off in context, to even the weird halftone & print layer offset. In execution, it’s probably a real mishmash of elements, but I’m a bit happy I even came within the ballpark of what I was shooting for with this one.
If you want one I didn’t annihilate with filters though, I’ve included an alt to go easier on your eyes.
