Pro tip: In photoshop, or CSP, or procreate, or whatever similar art software of your choice, Difference layers cause an inversion ofwhatever color occupies the layer.

So say you have a flesh tone. One you might’ve already turned into something… I don’t know, pumpkin-y? So you lay in an orange tone over the skin. Now say you might want to, for whatever reason, go for something just a tad bit bluer? Instead of going through the hassle of selecting & dropping in a new standard blue fill, you can experiment with duplicating the orange you already have & just setting the layer to something like difference.

Yeah, so lazy color variants, but I felt the urge to do a blueberry because it’s been a minute. And because I went nutty experimenting with the shading, there’s a flat version too, though the lines have to be bolstered & darkened a bit, making it even flatter than usual to me.

Another thing I was experimenting with this time around was reducing my amount of layers I had going. So here, once I had a layer of flats finished, I duped it & sort of started painting details (like the sweater texture & the t-shirt, along with different color tweaks). Anyway, in tweaking the layers on & off, there was another very simple version underneath too, a little less busy on the eyes. So I figured screw it, & decided to include flat & shaded versions of that as well.

Got more very soon, so be on the look out!

Like I said, they feel just a bit lazy. Especially if I don't go overboard with juice stains or have different dialogue to work in. But at the same time, if someone were to prefer blueberry over pumpkin & it is as quick as just turning off & on a few layers, why the hell not?!
