Progesterone is an endogenous steroid and progestogenic sex hormone that is, among other functions, involved in the menstrual cycle, pregnancy and embryogenesis of humans and other species. It belongs to a group of steroid hormones called progestogens and is the prevalent progestogen in the human body.

In women, progesterone stimulates and regulates numerous essential functions, playing a role in sustaining a pregnancy, preparing the body for conception and regulating the menstrual cycle. It also helps prevent excessive cell growth in the endometrial lining and prevents the formation of endometriosis and fibroids.

The main symptoms of having low progesterone levels are irregular periods and short cycles, but premenstrual spotting can occur occasionally. Other symptoms can include anxiety, mood changes, sleep disorders, and depression. Progesterone also influences the regulation of fluid levels in the body.

In men, progesterone influences spermiogenesis, sperm capacitation/acrosome reaction and testosterone biosynthesis in the Leydig cells.

Men with low levels of progesterone are at greater risk of depression, fatigue, erectile dysfunction, low libido, hair loss, weight gain, impotence, anxiety, muscle loss and bone loss, prostatism (a blockage of urine at the base of the bladder due to overgrowth of prostate cells) and even cancer.

Progesterone is also a crucial building block for several other hormones including testosterone, which is essential in defining male characteristics. It builds bone mass and takes part in regulating blood sugar, brain activity, and other functions throughout the body to ensure a healthy balance.

Progesterone helps reduce anxiety and boost memory. It also helps to prevent the overgrowth of certain types of cells, which can help protect against some types of cancer, including breast and uterus.

A large team of scientists concluded that natural progesterone could help slow down the growth of many breast cancer tumors, or even shrink them, unlike synthetic progestins which unfortunately increase the risk of developing breast cancer.

Happy results! :)
