i've listened to anime ost for like a gazillion hours so far and without a doubt i can say haikyuu is at the peak when it comes to ost, yuki hayashi did a fantastic job and haikyuu ost is one of his best creations, all the season have incredible tracks and i think the fourth season is the most refined and best one, glad you recognize how good the soundtrack is

i dunno if you noticed but ukais (karasunos coach) voice actor changed in ep 9?. the original one sadly died and they didn't have time to record every episode. and if im correct the old VA wanted the new one to play ukai. :(

The only show I have ever seen that hits AS HARD as Haikyu (as far as emotions, hype, and OST is concerned) is Ace of Diamond. Seriously the most slept on sports anime ever. Nick, MY MAN, you have to watch that one day. You will not regret it at all!

Definitely watch the Land vs Air OVA before going to Season 4. It has some important setup before Nationals and will introduce a new recurring character or two. Also, as a head's up: once you hit Season 4 the animation style will change and, at times, will become wonky. Especially the middle to back half of Season 4. Cour 1 of Season 4 ended right when the pandemic hit and the second cour got outsourced a bit which caused the production to suffer a tad.

Hey Nick, as they mentioned in the last episode there are qualifier matches to decide who will represent Tokyo prefecture in the nationals. And for those matches, there are 2 OVA episodes (called Land VS Air). So PLEASE watch them before you start Season 4.

Yeah Haikyuu is in the sports anime genre, but good story telling is good story telling. It’s the fact that it’s mostly realistic, well animated and well acted all helps in making it one of the best anime out there. And yes season 3 Haikyuu is peak. There’s so much payoff for the first 2 seasons of build up and the animation in this season is so smooth and complex it astounds me to this day.
