I have been waiting for this moment, this is why I love season 5. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT on all sides, and the truth behind Shigaraki and his evolution as a villain and as the successor to One for All. (Just as Deku evolves to his own standard of All Might, Shigaraki finds his own will to do more than All for One has... like he isn't doing this for him- he's doing it for himself and those who believe in his ideals)

One thing I really love about mha is how they portray character's backstories, it doesn't even have to be bad or sad like Tenko's but it still makes you connect to the character and like them even more

His mom still reaching out to comfort him while she's dying always gets me. She really loved him, they just should've spoke up about the dad sooner :(. His grandma being shimura nana was mentioned back in season 3 I think, but we don't really touch on it too much. She didn't want villains targeting her kid so she abandoned him.

Surprisingly, this arc (the villain arc you are watching right now) is one of the most hated on arcs, and least favorite arcs in the anime. I've never understood that though, it's one of my favorite arcs and clearly one of yours in MHA. (Also, we already knew about shigaraki's grandma being an OFA user)

Peak!!! For me I love this show but I didn’t particularly care for Shiguraki until this episode. This episode solidified the show as one of my favorites because it gave me a complete villain with excellent storytelling. So good!

Yeah the action is cool but imo backstories and characterization is what MHA has over other shows. It’s probably not in my top 10 favorite anime but when it comes to characters there’s definitely one or two in my top 10.

Watching multiple shows at once really makes you forgot huh haha. Nana Shimura (7th wielder) was shown to be related to Shigaraki since S3 during the AFO vs All Might fight. And then they sprinkled the info a bit over time.

Can't believe he forgot the big reveal that Shigaraki is related to Nana. From season 3. All for One revealing this to All Might at the time made him feel hopeless. It even gave him the desire to try and save Shigaraki.

There is no way Nick forgot that she is Shigarakis Grandma... i get that you forget stuff while watching it, we all do but that was a BIG plot twist in S3 during the All Might vs All For One fight, really suprised that he forgot it.

Your reactions are the highlight of my week! It can definitely be a lot to remember while juggling multiple series, but All For One dropped the bomb on All Might in season 3 that Tomura Shigaraki (real name: Tenko Shimura) is the grandson of Nana Shimura's-- All Might's master and predecessor! Tenko's origin story is absolutely heartbreaking.

Yea and to make you even sadder, you know how during the last reaction I said one's quirk extremely influences one's personality/character traits. Which is why toga is like a crack fiend for blood? So when Shigaraki's quirk started to manifest, he developed a strong itch and the itch always got worse whenever he refused the urge to destroy/decay. So as his emotions boiled ovet about his family, he started to decay without him even realizing it thus killing his dog. So yea this arc explores the darkside of superhuman society. Who are there to save those who were extremely unlucky or just curse with a terrible power. The answer to that is almost never because one thing that was explore during the stain arc and before is how modern heroes aren't truly heroic and are only in it for the money and fame thus only are present in large cities where massive crimes to tend to happen to attain the spotlight. They didn't really walk amongst the streets trying to seek those who really needs saving. Thus these ppl feel abandoned as they continue to suffer thus becoming villains. The reason why shigaraki hate all might so much is because he played a major part in modern heroes losing their heroism. All Might made himself a God and took on everything by himself and removed all the responsibilities creating a false sense of security amongst the masses. All Might the man who can save anyone but not actually?? Now the civilians have it in their mind that saving isn't really there responsibility so they typically don't lend a helping hand to those that heroes might not see or be able to save.

I don't believe Tenko's father had ever physically abused him up to that point. His mother said as much after it happened. She basically admitted that Kotaro had been tough on his son and they had appeased to "his rules of the house", but laying a hand on him physically was too much. Even Kotaro himself admitted that he had gone too far and was remorseful. His dog was comforting him, his sister came to apologize, his mom and grandparents put Kotaro in his place and were on their way to check on Ten/comfort him, and his dad(as mentioned above) was remorseful and seemingly on his way to apologize as well. If Decay didn't activate at that exact moment, Tenko may not have turned into Shiggy. This little detail becomes much more important later on, but I won't spoil.

the way shimura's despair and hurt and trauma is depicted is so well done, it makes me cry and kind of emotionally triggers me, because i also grew up in a family with emotional and physical abuse. idk, i think this show has so much to tell, it's amazing. although i will probably never watch this episode by myself ever again for my own mental health, this is fire.

Im not sure if you understood nick, in case you didnt: Twice as you know wasnt sure if he is the real twice, or just a clone, after he had to fight all his clones. As he said a clone would disappear if it would take too much damage like a broken bone for example. The twice robots, broke both his arms and he didnt disappear, which made him sure of being the real one, and breaking the cycle. Also when he said he could have tried to kill himself, he meant he would have found out if he was the real one by that.

Shigarakis sister Hana seems familiar to you because she looks EXTREMELY similar to the little girl Mahoro from the second my hero movie She has the same pigtails, and almost the exact same outfit in different colours, i wonder if it was even accidental, they’re so so similar actually My hero does such a good job at making them so cute and innocent looking, made this much more painful..

Yeah Shigarakis grandmother Nana Shimura was the One for All user before all might, one of All mights mentors with Gran Torino Easy to forget since it was mentioned before but never for very long. All for one revealed it to all might and that’s why all might got so angry in his fight, and why he almost started hesitating to want to fight Shigaraki cause he’s the son of all mights mentor, but Gran Torino told All might not to think that way

The anime has always censored Shigarakis decay to look like turning to stone and crumbling to ashes, as opposed to breaking people into literal chunks which is how it is in the manga. It being shown in its uncensored full detail here made it SO much darker and more impactful, I can’t even believe they show so close up shots of the literal chunks of his dog and Hana in a pool of blood it’s so unbelievably brutal for my hero

From a purely logical point of view, the accident with the dog will happen more often because the powers are activated at a young age and you never know which one it will be. It will definitely happen more often that a child cuddles with the pet or the parents and then the child shoots a laser from the belly button or the fingers turn into knives or it starts to burn etc

Well the thing is that when a child of that age manifests their quirk its pretty rare that the manifested quirk will be as strong as in this case. The quirks evolve as people grow up and because of that I dont think that this would be a common situation. And even when the kids start developing their powers further I dont think that ahything serious is gonna happen for most of the time since they live in a pretty developed superhuman society and I guess maiking your kids control their powers from very young age is something people just do, especially if this is something that goverments look over.

Tragedy- Nana, the 7th One For All user, was hunted down by All For One. Eventually her husband was killed, leading her to put Kotaro up for foster care. All Might and Gran Torino were not permitted to get into contact with him because of All Might being the 8th, and those close to him may also be targeted. Nana did this for her son to be safe and happy... even if she was killed by All For One soon after writing her final letter to him. Sadly Kotaro was left in the dark on exactly what happened there, and felt she abandoned him to further pursue her hero career. His hatred for heroes led to the abuse of who could've been his heroic children, Tenko and Hana. First Tenko's dad would tell him "no talking about heroes". Then he gets smacked for learning that his grandmother was a hero... finally when he kills Hana he must be thinking... "this isn't a villain attack, right now I must be the villain. I can never be a hero." From there the hatred for his current state took him back to the source... his father, his family's defense of his actions and the house that he built. No coincidence that the scratching happened when he was at home... The entire sequence was so heartbreaking to watch, especially his mother's hug attempt. This might be my favorite episode too, I loved seeing Tomura's memories fully return. Loved the reaction!

Bruh don't remember stuff xD , it's ok , during AFO vs All Might, he revealed that shigaraki tomura was Shimura Tenko , the grandson of Shimura Nana , the previous user of OFA , Master of All Might. AFO stumbled upon him and decided to grom him to get to All Might and so creepy revenge, because All Might fucked him up . Shimura Nana, left her kid to someone because AFO was getting close to her this putting her kid at risk , she then gave OFA to Toshinori Yagi and formed him into All Might, but then she faught AFO and was killed . Her Kid got messed up about heroes and became violent , witch triggered a really fcked quirk awakening in Tenko

And yeah quirk are really tied to personality and environment, like look at Twice , his parents died when he was in middle school, he got insanely lonely, thus his ability to double stuff , him not being alone , but he because even more lonely after he lost his job to some BS fck. The author knows how to make some really tragic backstory
