Chapter 2124: He Came Back Last Night

Early the next morning, just as daybreak arrived, Meng Yunzheng left with the letter.

Zhao Xi, acting as if he were trying to sow discord, teased Shu Yu, "You see, as soon as you're not around, he starts staying out all night. We happened to catch him last night. How many nights do you think he stayed out while you weren't here?"

Shu Yu was unimpressed and didn't buy into Zhao Xi's attempts to create discord between her and Meng Yunzheng. After all, Zhao Xi and Meng Yunzheng had been friends for many years.

Zhao Xi was about to explain himself when Shu Yu informed them, "He came back last night, and we talked for a while."

Zhao Xi, skeptical, asked, "He came back last night?"

Shu You replied, "You were sleeping so soundly that you didn't hear. If you don't believe me, you can ask Ying Xi."

Ying Xi, who shared a room with Shu Yu, confirmed that she had heard the commotion last night. She also mentioned that she had heard Meng Yunzheng talking with Shu Yu early in the morning before he left.

Zhao Xi was left feeling frustrated and muttered a couple of times.

Ignoring him, Shu Yu finished her meal, spent some time with Little Huohuo, and then told Xiao Songle, "Your uncle has some business to attend to and will be back later. Let's go shopping first to buy some things. After that, we can visit your aunt."

Xiao Songle nodded eagerly, "Okay!"

Having already eaten, he rushed back to his room, rummaged through his bag, and returned with a bulging bag. Shu Yu noticed and asked him what he had brought.

Xiao Songle explained that he wanted to buy clothes for his aunt. He had noticed that his aunt's clothes were not very warm. Since it was still cold in the city, he thought it would be a good idea to get her some warmer clothing.

Shu Yu, pleased with his thoughtful idea, took him to a clothing store. However, most of the clothes there were vibrant and youthful, more suited for young girls. Buying something like that would probably not fit his aunt.

After browsing for a while, they finally found a cotton-padded coat that would be suitable for Xiao Songle's aunt. Although it was a bit loose, it didn't matter; it was better for the coat to be a little big than too small.

The coat was made of good material and felt comfortable to the touch. However, it was a bit expensive, costing three taels of silver.

While this price was reasonable for Shu You, it might have been considered high for ordinary people. Xiao Songle took out a purse from his bag, stood on his tiptoes, and placed it on the counter, saying, "Here, I have it."

The shopkeeper glanced at Shu Yu, who didn't object, and smiled, "Alright, young master, please wait a moment. I'll wrap it up for you."

The shopkeeper neatly folded the coat and placed it in a bag, which he handed to Xiao Songle. Ying Xi, who was with them, received the bag as it was a bit heavy.

After leaving the clothing store, Shu Yu asked Xiao Songle if there was anything else he wanted to buy, but he shook his head.

So, they went to buy some fabric and snacks before returning to their small courtyard.

They had expected Meng Yunzheng to return by this time, but they waited for half an hour, and he still hadn't returned. It seemed that after delivering the letter, he was unable to leave yet.
