Chapter 2114: Not Taking a Boat

With Little Huo Huo, the journey was anything but lonely.

Four adults, or rather, four adults plus Xiao Songle, who considered himself a little adult, taking care of a little one was quite manageable. Especially since Little Huo Huo was not difficult to handle. When Xiao Songle and he lay side by side in the carriage, he could babble away.

Xiao Songle was quite happy. Even though Little Huo Huo was still young, they were friends and peers, and they got along quite comfortably. He often read books to Little Huo Huo, and the little guy could fall asleep listening to him.

Like now, after just a few words of the Three-Character Classic, he yawned.

Seeing his long eyelashes flutter and close, Xiao Songle regretfully looked away and sat up.

He noticed that Shu Yu and Shu You were both looking out the window, so he leaned over curiously.

Shu Yu had traveled this road many times before, but it was Shu You's first time, so she was listening attentively to her younger sister's explanations.

After listening for a while, Xiao Songle asked in a low voice, "Auntie, are we going to take a boat again?"

Shu Yu smiled, "Do you remember that we took a boat on our way back?"

Xiao Songle touched his head and smiled. Although he was only a little over two years old at the time, he seemed to have some memories of taking a boat. After all, it was his first time traveling far from home, and he vaguely remembered it.

But Shu Yu shook her head. "We won't be taking a boat this time."

Her original plan was to go to Huajiang Prefecture's dock and take a boat, which would be faster for their journey north.

However, due to unexpected delays caused by Zhao Xi's need to attend the woman who had a miscarriage due to a fall, they were delayed by almost half a month. Now, with her older sister and Little Huo Huo added to the group, the original room they had booked on the boat wouldn't be enough.

Especially at this time, with the upcoming Spring Imperial Examination, many people were heading to the capital. Any cabins with better conditions were already booked by people with some status.

Most importantly, Little Huo Huo was still very young, and taking a boat would be quite inconvenient. While it was possible to take short breaks and let him breathe in the carriage, Zhao Xi could also take him for a ride on a horse, which excited the little guy.

However, it wouldn't be the same on a boat. If Little Huo Huo threw a tantrum, there wouldn't be anywhere to stop, and Zhao Xi certainly couldn't take him on a boat trip up and down the river.

So, after discussing it, they decided not to take a boat.

This worked out well since Shu Yu could now pass by Changjin Prefecture.

Since they were traveling by carriage, Shu Yu thought it would be a good opportunity to visit Changjin Prefecture.

The group of people made their way with frequent stops, and it was quite lively with two children. They finally arrived at Changjin Prefecture.

First, they rested at the shops in the city. Lu Ji Store's backyard had several rooms, which were usually cleaned by Jiang Fengshou's wife. All they needed to do was lay out some bedding and they were good to go.

Jiang Fengshou greeted them with a beaming smile. Shu You noticed that he seemed a bit fatter than last year, indicating that he was living a comfortable life.

Jiang Fengshou was not reserved either. "Of course, ever since I started working at the Lu family's store, life has been good for our whole family." Without family members dragging them down and with the higher wages Shu Yu provided, not only him but his wife and children also looked well-nourished.

Shu Yu just smiled and took the account book Jiang Fengshou handed her to check.
