Chapter 1993: Shu Yu Prepares to Return Home

Tao Shi explained, "Ah Han will be marrying into the city, and although our escort agency is decent, compared to the Gan family, there's still a gap."

She was referring to the economic aspect, where the Meng family couldn't quite compete with the Gan family.

Shu Yu understood, "So, you want to buy a shop in the city as part of Ah Han's dowry?"

"Yes, indeed. Haven't you heard that shop prices in the city have dropped a bit this year? I thought it's a good opportunity to buy a shop for Ah Han's future."

The idea was good, but even if the shop prices in the capital had dropped, they were still quite high. Did Tao Shi have enough money for this?

As it turned out, she didn't. Earlier, her money had been swindled by her younger brother, and most of it had been spent on her family.

Fortunately, the Meng family's escort agency had some savings, but recently they had been investing heavily in expanding the agency. Money was flowing out like water, and without the financial support of Meng Pei, the expansion would have only been half complete.

So, wanting to buy a shop in the city, Tao Shi didn't have the funds readily available.

However, she really wanted to take advantage of the current lower prices. Otherwise, in a few years, she might not be able to afford it.

Before coming, she borrowed some money from someone else. In fact, she could have directly borrowed from Shu Yu or Meng Yunzheng. However, both of them were younger and had some previous conflicts. Even if Tao Shi had asked, they wouldn't have agreed.

Tao Shi's main purpose in seeking Shu Yu's advice was to get suggestions on which shop location would be better.

Tao Shi was unfamiliar with the city and hadn't done business before, so she needed guidance in this regard.

Shu Yu rarely found Tao Shi's decision to be quite foresighted, so she didn't refuse. She went to inquire with Jiang Fengshou, and sure enough, he quickly offered four shops for Tao Shi to choose from.

After looking them over, Tao Shi ultimately chose a cloth shop located in Fuyuan Street.

First, it was close to Lu Ji store, providing mutual assistance. Second, the cloth shop was sold as a package deal, so Tao Shi wouldn't have to worry about running other businesses. Third, when Meng Han had helped out at Shu You's Yi Ren Pavilion in Dong'an Prefecture, although she wasn't experienced in other areas, she did have some knowledge of fabrics.

After finalizing the decision, Tao Shi negotiated with the shop owner and quickly completed the transaction. The shop was now under Meng Han's name.

With this accomplished, Tao Shi felt relieved.

Seeing that Meng Han's marriage was settled, and the Lu Ji store was on track, Shu Yu realized it was almost April and time for her to return to Dong'an Prefecture.

She had been away for almost half a year.

As she made preparations to leave, Cheng Xian approached her and Meng Yunzheng for a meal.

Cheng Xian mentioned that after the incident with Cheng Jiatong, Cheng Feng had sent Cheng Jiatong and Cheng Wenbao to the southwest on the third day. They hadn't waited for Cheng Xian to join them, and it wouldn't have been suitable for him to travel with them. However, when they returned to the southwest, they would inevitably meet again.

Cheng Xian had also finished his business in Changjin Prefecture and planned to return home in a few days.

Shu Yu considered, "You're heading to the southwest, right? Won't you be traveling the same route as me? How about traveling together?"

Meng Yunzheng, who was sipping tea nearby, couldn't help but sigh. He couldn't leave now. In a few months, it would be the autumn examination period, and if he left, he would have to return shortly afterward. The round trip would consume a lot of time.

Shu Yu also disagreed with him going back and advised him to stay here to prepare for the exam. As for the academy he had purchased, she would help with repairs after returning home, and he could actively recruit students once he returned after the examinations.
