Chapter 1967: Deep Brotherhood on Display

Originally, Shu Rui and his two companions had planned to leave. They had experienced the local customs and wanted to visit other places. However, when Xun Sheng mentioned the upcoming poetry event, they decided to stay a bit longer.

However, when Xun Sheng suggested they stay, they naturally couldn't refuse.

So, they continued to stay, working and earning money. Xun Sheng knew they were experiencing life, so he didn't go out of his way to take care of them.

After treating them to a meal, their meetings mainly revolved around discussing knowledge and the upcoming poetry gathering.

While the three of them worked and saved money, if they waited until after the poetry gathering to return home, their funds would truly be insufficient. Shu Rui had limited money with him, which had to be split among three people. Now, with the delay in returning, they needed to work hard to earn more.

Upon hearing this, Shu Yu couldn't help but ask, "So, you haven't even had a chicken leg to eat?"

Da Bao took a fierce bite of meat, "Yeah, it's been tough."

Er Niu, on the other hand, said, "Though it's tough, this experience has taught us a lot about the ways of the world. It's more beneficial than not."

Da Bao looked at him incredulously, "What have you learned? I'm just exhausted."

Shu Rui asked him, "So, do you at least know where to hide money for the next time you go out?"

"I do."

"If you encounter someone in need, would you give money without hesitation?"

Da Bao snorted, "I'm not like Er Niu. Even if someone faints in front of me, they won't trick a single coin out of me. I'm thrifty."

The others chimed in, "Right, we almost forgot how stingy you are."

Shu Rui said, "Well, at least now, if you ever find yourself penniless again, you'll know how to survive."

"Pff, don't talk nonsense. There won't be such a situation in the future."

Shu Rui didn't want to continue the conversation, so he sat down angrily and snatched the last chicken leg from Da Bao's plate, taking a big bite.

Da Bao was furious, "I'm already in such a pitiful state, and you're stealing my food?"

"Who's not pitiful? You've already eaten three chicken legs; you have no shame."

"Are you trying to start a fight?"

"Sure, let's see if you can beat me."

Shu Yu watched the two of them huddled together and said to the others, "Ignore them; let's keep eating."

Shu Rui and Da Bao had already run into the yard; they said they were going to fight, but it was more like they were bumping their heads together to see who could endure more.

Just as they were getting into it, a pair of long legs suddenly appeared before their eyes.

Shu Rui lifted his head abruptly, and without support, Da Bao fell right onto him.

Seeing that the two were about to fall to the ground together, the owner of the long legs acted swiftly and lifted them both up.

"So, you're putting on a display of brotherly love as soon as I return?" Shu Rui looked up and said excitedly, "Big Brother Meng!"

Meng Yunzheng helped them up, giving them a once-over. "You both look darker and thinner. It seems like you've had a tough time during this period."

Da Bao, hearing this, felt like he had found a kindred spirit. "You have no idea; I…"

As he was about to start complaining again, Shu Yu, who had heard the voice, immediately rushed out, surprised. "How come you're here? Weren't you very busy during this time?"

"I heard that the three of them had returned, so I came to check on them," Meng Yunzheng explained while walking inside.

Shu Rui and Da Bao exchanged glances, and once again, they began to bump their heads together.
