Hey guys! Anime Expo starts really soon but I figured I'd leave you with an update on how redrawing Red Muscle ch3 is going. I added a few things here and there in ch2 to flesh out character relationships but I think ch3 has a LOT of new stuff that's really building out Scarlet as a character and showing off her personality. I'm including the old pages for comparison.

In the first batch of pages, I made it clearer that Scarlet is really a goofy anime loving nerd that works in contrast to her confident, athletic appearance. Here, I wanted to make it more apparent that some time has passed since she moved in. On reading back the chapter, I felt like I didn't really convey this too well so I took the opportunity to give a little more depth to what Scarlet and Edgar do on a day to day basis. They're not really that diligent about work, they both just kind of chill out together and are really enjoying cohabitating. I also took out the laser eye scanner and her comments because I didn't really think that was all that humorous, so the time was better used to establish relationship things.

As Scarlet takes her morning jog to the grocery store, she bumps into police officers that know her. This isn't a particularly important change but I wanted to write out that Scarlet had any sort of actual meaningful connection to the police, mostly as a personal choice. I know I kind of made them goofier and ended up humanizing them more but I think it makes more sense now for Scarlet to just have been doing her regular yoga instruction and not really know anything about the people that took her classes. I also have Scarlet showing that she's really into Edgar and feels a deep connection to him that she expresses in a kind of embarrassing way, but I think Scarlet being more embarrassing is a very fitting charm to her character.

Then we have Ula and the guppies still seeing Scarlet's conversation as a threat, and I'm tweaking some of the Ula stuff here to set up for some bigger, more meaningful ideas in the future. None of it shows up on this post because its just on the next page which I didn't include here (I still have some empty panels to draw) but the changes are subtle until I can expand on them in ch9.

It's actually been very hard to get into a comics mindset at the moment, as drawing layouts and framing things in varied and interesting ways is a bit of a struggle right now. I really want to persevere and finish this so I can move on to drawing ch9 and getting NEW story out there for Red Muscle! I've been going back and forth fine tuning a lot of character arcs and story ideas/big picture goals for the series and I'm really excited to get to all of that, I just wish I was faster at drawing!! That's all I have for you for now, hopefully this is interesting even though it's old chapters that you've seen before.

Anyways, see you some time soon!
