This show “infinite challenge” was the most famous and popular Korean tv show for many years. For over a month, they showed the process of IU making this song for this festival and that is why the audience knew some parts of the song even though the song was not released before this stage.

So this is from a variety program called Infinity challenge. It used to be the biggest and hottest variety show in korea before it ended about 2 years ago. The concept of the show is to have their regular members (mostly made up of comedians) take up different "seemingly impossible" challenges. For this series of episodes IU took part in as a guest, the members paired up with singers to make a song from scratch to be performed live at an annual song festival they have been hosting for 3 years running at the time. The comedian that paired up with her is Park MyungSoo (PMS). He is a popular comedian/host/DJ. Similar to the man that did their introduction (who is another member and lead host of the show by the way), Yoo JaeSuk (YJS). YJS, if you do not know him, needs no introduction in korea. He is THE most popular man in korea. Yes, even more popular than BTS. They call him the nation's MC and he is currently the lead host of the all time popular variety program called Running Man that is very popular with international fans. Back to the song, there was an entire process they filmed of IU and PMS making the song. Initially, IU wanted to push a slower tempo song (The Shower) for the festival but PMS was very against the idea because everyone thinks an upbeat song is most appropriate for the festival. By the way, the teams were also in competition with each other so there were some stakes at play. The song was mainly created by IU and it was based off the characters Leon and Mathilda in the movie The Professional. The lyrics are analogous of IU's and PMS's relationship throughout this process as in the movie. PMS also has a background being an EDM DJ part time at night clubs so he was pushing the songs IU recommended to be more EDM-fied. Lol. In the end, they both came to a middle ground and we got this song. The last part was basically a give in to what PMS wanted the song to be more of. It isn't part of the official track. Leon became a song that topped the charts at number 1, as with most, if not all of IU's releases. Although they decided to scrap the ranking for this song festival, Leon probably would have won given how the song did at the charts. It is an amazing song and I actually do feel grateful for PMS for pushing IU to take on something that was out of her usual comfort zone. As they used to say Infinity challenge was not just a challenge for the members, it's a challenge for the guests as well. I thought IU grew as a musician through this process. Leon continues to be a song that is a popular request for IU to perform at her concerts. Lastly, EU god-G isn't EU was their team name. It's kind of hard to explain what it is so I'll skip this but in short, it's an abbreviation of some meaningful korean names.

Fun facts: This song was made by IU. She originally made another song for this show called "The Shower" but Myungsoo, IU's partner in this show (Infinite Challenge) wants an upbeat song lol that's because he owns an EDM company but IU originally chose Myungsoo because she thought his voice will fit her song. Eventually, IU had to come up with another song hence the creation of LEON. It was based on the movie Leon: The Professional. The last part was not included in the rehearsal that's to give way to Myungsoo's request to have an EDM in the song lol. Infinite Challenge is one of very few variety show that IU joined, it was so fun to watch as it caters how IU is like as a singer and an artist. She was strict even during the recording of the song. I think you should watch it Aaron though it's not IU exclusive because other artist were there too like HyukOh and GD & Taeyang of Big Bang. The guy who appeared in the last part of the song is a huge fan of IU. He pursued music career because he wants to meet IU and he was able to. It's crazy! He, that time was working for Myungsoo. So imagine learning that IU chose Myungsoo and he'll get to meet and work with IU, DESTINY IT WAS <3

For some reason, the Koreans really like this 1994 French film, Leon: The Professional, directed by Luc Besson. It was Natalie Portman's first role. It's in English, and is an amazing film. It's very, very dark and it would _never_ be made today. It involves an ambiguous relationship between a young teen girl and a middle-aged man. It is referenced in a TWICE video, and there are other Korean cultural references to it. I don't understand why this film hit a chord with Koreans, but it did. The plant, by the way, is a storyline in the film.

Hi, I'm new to your reaction videos, and enjoyed it a lot. I know that it's an old video, but a few facts about the song. 1. As mentioned by others, this song was made for this TV show called 'Infinite Challenge'. 2. Lyrics were written by IU, and was co-composed with JongHoon Lee, the composer of 'Dear Name' and 'Love Poem'. They also co-composed songs like 'Twenty three' and 'Blueming'. 3. This was from 2015, when she was 22 (23 in Korean age), which was right before the album 'Chat-shire', the first album that IU produced herself, and wrote all the lyrics. 4. The team name 'EU God-G isn't EU' isn't a good translation. This is a parody of a song title '이유 같지 않은 이유' (Unreasonable reason), where 이유(EU) means 'reason' in Korean. But since 아이유(IU) is a three syllable name just like many Korean names, some people call her 이유(EU), treating '아' as her last name. And Myungsoo Park, the comedian, is also known as 'G-Park' when he does DJ. So he called himself as 'God-G' to praise himself, and chose the name 'EU God-G 않은 EU' to include their names in the team name. Hope that explains.
