I feel guilty working on something other than what I owe you guys, but Slugbox was holding a fanart contest and inspiration struck. Well, a combination of admiration for his work and, uh, feeling kind of insecure about mine. I looked at some of my old work the other day and it kind of wigged my brain out how relatively slow my progress has been in finding my style or whatever.

Like this thing happened in my teens where I just got exponentially better at realism, and even though my cartooning was pretty bad back then...a part of me still struggles with that *plateau* feeling. Like I had really rapid progress at one point that just fizzled. It's a pretty common hurdle in art. And I'm not fishing for reassurance - I just wanna let you guys into the "behind the scenes" of my brain a bit more, if you're into that.

So yeah. Making art is this constant brain battle of "I'm doing okay and enjoying my process, and learning!" versus "I feel like I did better before and other people get better faster." It's quite the balancing act. ;3

And this piece was an exercise in experimentation and enjoying the process, hopefully to reignite my focus where everything else is concerned! Also MMMMM baby, I love colors.
