Hi Bonny - do you still use polychromos ivory underneath when you’re working on reddy-brown spaniels or do you prefer to use the white Pablo for those too? Thanks! (I posted this comment and it disappeared so apologies if it’s duplicated somewhere)

HI Wendy, yes I do sometimes use the ivory - actually it doesn't really matter - you could also use a light grey for a black dog if you wanted. The reason I lay this down first is really to help me understand the lie of the fur and where the brightest highlights and mid tones are. Some of the pencil will come through all the layers as you'll reinforce the tones as you go, and some will be obliterated by further layers. Hope this helps :)

Could I just ask how large this piece is? I’m wondering if I’m working too small currently as I’m really struggling to achieve any detail, particularly in the eyes.

HI Michell - well you could draw her as big as you want, but the one I drew she was around 11" head to bottom of the pic
