It's finally time for a NEW lesson - and this is a big one, a topic you've been asking for quite a while. One of the wishlist winners: CAGED vs 3NPS! What's the better system for creative solos? Or is there an even BETTER one??

Get your CAGED workout files here (video play-alongs, tabs, guitar pro files, PDF script, backing tracks): https://www.dropbox.com/sh/gf5tlvxby1etfzq/AABS9YsV47ZfzuK3vkpXk955a?dl=0

thx bernth for making my brain more confortable about the caged system! my guitar teacher tried to teach me about it, but i didn't get much... 1st time watching your video already made it more understandable, but i'll have to watch it more than once ;)

Zwilling! I never used the CAGED system, at the moment I always use the mode patterns to improvise. But I'll definitely go into the interval mindset to see if I can switch faster during playing. Bernth, these are exactly the important topics for me! Thanks

Thanks for sharing Ace, that makes me happy :) I think the workout will help with connecting the dots even further (playing the chord, arpeggio, pentatonic scale, and major scale) - hope this is fun :)

Hab ich das Video verpasst, in dem du einen Grund für die random german words genannt hast, oder gab es das gar nicht und du streust das jetzt einfach so ein? xD Btw. I never used a system at all... I just play... and when I like what I play, I write it down in guitar pro, playing it there as a backing track and improvising other it for rhythm or melody (depending on what I got first). Works great :P I love my songs ^^ until today I never really needed too much of theory knowledge... still I am trying to get some of it into my head but... it just won't last there for long. For example I did this "C, D, E, F..." exercise of yours some weeks ago for a straight 2 and half weeks each day and I still can't immediatly tell which note I just fretted on my guitar... it just kinda works on the e string... all the others I have to think over a little and mostly just getting it from fretboard geography... my head just seems not willing to learn too much about that theory stuff -.-'

I prefer the modes in 3NPS as my starting point Especially if it’s an improv situation. I do like to rely on my ear at the same time for intervals. Occasionally, in a flurry of notes, thinking about where I should go next is easier by hearing the intervals instead of where “the mode says I should go.” I suppose what I use is a combination of what I know. I’d love to hear how others process their note selection. As always thanks Bernth for such thoughtful topics!

Zwilling! I def can see how you really need a well rounded approach - getting stuck in one method does get boring. Between this lesson and #174 - there is a lot of top shelf info being shared! Thanks

Another great lesson. More light bulb moments, just top Zwilling.

I adore this way of teaching! ......

Is it possible to have such an educational package for playing without picking ? ( Hybrid picking... Tousin Abasi techniques ...

Jesse V

I mean you could just take and mix it. For example do 3 notes per string and do the double thumb technique and just to one note per strum. Sorry just saw the comment and was going to do the same thing tbh.

Zwilling. Großartiger Messerhersteller 🙈 Great lesson. I would love to share this in another community. But you may just have a bit too much in-house advertising in it. They'll probably bash me for it 😋
