Since I got a lot of community requests for economy picking I thought it's about time to record a lesson on that :) This is a very devisive topic, some players swear it's the fastest technique ever while others dismiss it as a cheap trick or shortcut. So in this video we will find out for ourselves!

The lick in this lesson serves as a great introduction to the benefits of this technique since two note per string licks are quite difficult to perform with alternate picking. We check out the advantages and disadvantages once again and I uploaded some extra files for you guys!

Will you use this technique in the future? Should we look at more licks like that?

Ahh, one step closer. I have looked at your other economy picking lesson it is a bit of a mind f--k in the beginning. As you have to kinda reprogram ur breaking 😂 but lots of possibilities. 🤘🏽🎸 Thanks. Oh and the lesson was simple but very informative in the right places.

Great to hear that it was helpful Hector :) I agree, it feels like re-learning aspects of your picking technique but it can be very useful for certain licks! I'm not completely fluent with economy picking yet but it works like a charm for this specific lick. Let's see what the future brings, I'd love to hear if you will use it for your music in the future!

Bernth, oddly enough, when I played this lick I noticed that my default way of playing it is to use economy picking. I guess when I was learning alternate picking, I just picked up this type of economy picking (by luck?). So I guess my question would be is there any benefit in learning to play this lick using true alternate picking? I do use alternate picking when playing the same string but I use a mixture of alternate and economy picking when changing strings (whichever seems more natural and faster).

Hey Scott, thanks a lot for sharing that - it's honestly fascinating to hear what comes natural for some players and what feels like 'working against it' in some way! I personally had to work quite a lot to get the economy picking motion to this level for this video, but now I definitely see why players use it so much. It's a really important tool to have in your arsenal in my opinion, happy that I took the time to check it out :)
