Michael Livingston and Kelly DeVries answer listener questions about medieval military history. What do we mean when we talk about lines at a battle? Could those first into a battle survive? Are there campaigns that do not lead to battles or sieges? What was their favourite scene of medieval warfare from a film?

For a Q&A down the road: In the Agincourt book, Michael wrote about the Cheshire bowmen joining the Percy army. Obviously they were famous enough in England to be of note, but in other countries would have just been written about as “English archers”. Were there soldiers in other countries who had national renown, but not international renown? Did the French give callouts to the knights of Ile-de-France, or Castilians/Aragonese mentioning troops from Sevilla or other regions as famous, but just within their own cultures?
