People saying its bad are usually people doing damage control for people who come in as shonen fans expecting more nonstop action. Vinland Saga has always been a seinen, so if you go into this season expecting some fantastic character writing and moments for the cast, you'll get a great arc, but if you just want the shonen fighting type of story, the first season is more your style. Personally, this arc is what made me love this story. I hope you end up feeling the same way!
