Oh look it's that boy with the straw hat wasn't he supposed to be the hero of this story. In all seriousness, it felt like for some thing like 15 episodes Oden has stolen the hero's seat. This must've been the longest stretch of one piece where none of the straw hats make an appearance. (Franky's cameo in episode 967 doesn't count)

If you pay very close attention to the bird in the previous episode, it's much better drawn than the bird that Kanjuro drew in Dressrosa.

When we first got introduced to Kanjuro at Dressrosa, he was holding a cabbage with his right hand. whenever he used his giant paintbrush as a weapon, he hold it with his right hand. When he drew anything while he were with the SH, he used his left hand. The giant bird that carried him, Kin'emon, and Zoro at Dressrosa and the bird that delivered the letter to Orochi were both Spring Sparrow. Oda dropped ship load off clues for the traitor. Two episodes in one reaction, that's going to be great. Have a safe and fun time.

Kanjuro is right-handed but he would always draw with his left hand to convince people that he doesn't know how to draw. you can actually look back to previous episodes/chapters and see that. Oda left us small hints just for us to see noticed that.

At first you're right that Oden never searching for retainers but did you forgot later on he actualy ask them to "be my samurai" to all of them (Episode 962 mins 10:24), its just the same as the retainers, so the retainers thing is official, everybody were already with Oden (when Oden become a Daimyo of Kuri)

Also remember those scene when oden was about to kill orochi and when Oden are dancing in the capital they laughed at him, i think around that spesific time this spy was started working for him, and you know at that time even before he went to the whitebeard ship, the retainers were already there. Maybe you got confused on the TL because of those theatre stuff but it might be happen in the past and now after everything orochi learn, he just killed the person that kill this spy parents and then start recruiting him after orochi has a knowledge that the spy were already with Oden. Also remember at sometimes the news are spread into the newspaper throughout the wano country when they were officially his retainers, and that probably how orochi got the info. Yasuie himself ask them to learn and grow stronger, thats all was to built them as Oden's retainers. Also orochi dont ask him to be oden retainer but he said to be "the real oden retainer" which indicates that he already with Oden and orochi ask him to stick with him until the duty is finished basically

Thats what everybody said, but in the Manga its not obvius at all! The Anime made it obvius sadly.

Orochi didn't told Kanjuro to be "Oden's retainer". He told him to be "Kozuki's retainer". Orochi's plan was to take down the whole Kozuki clan, not Oden specifically.

Remember the episode you hate when Luffy and the others were trying to climb up Zou, they climbed it up with Kanjuro's drawing which was a "dragon". A Kozuki retainer should've hate dragon cuz Kaido himself is a dragon who destroyed their country. But Kanjuro actually drew a dragon which Oda was foreshadowing that he had no hatred to it.

Hints that KANJURO was a traitor. 1. In dressrosa, remember when doflamingo put bounties on everyone’s head ? God ussop? Straw hats ? Law? Kyros? King riku? Sabo ? And others... KANJURO was the only one not given a bounty. 2. In zou, kanjuro purposely drew a dragon for them to ride up zou knowing damn well how much mine on and momo hate dragons 3. Jack was given intel on where raizo was in zou, and he specifically looked for raizo there... the only people who had that intel was on kinemon, momo and kanjuro... so the spy had to be between them , and there should have been no doubt that kinemon and momo weren’t the spy so it had to be kanjuro. 4. Kanjuro in wano arc has done nothing to support the raid of onigashima. Everyone else has a role, and kanjuro has been on the outside doing nothing at all. many other hints oda has left there but no one could have guessed it. a theorist on YouTube called marco the theorist actually called this back in 2019! He studied those arcs in so much detail and called it. Should check him out, he’s the best theorist out there.

dont forget about when he drew that ussop face thing in Dressrosa to make sugar pass out, when ussop asked him to draw it he hesitated since he didn't know what he was gonna use it for or if it would help the straw hats or not. Pretty sure he asked him what it was for as well.

There's also the time Doflamingo recognized Kinemon and Momo, despite the fact he never saw them before. Kanjuro must've drawn pictures of them.

The fact that he used his non dominant hand to purposely draw bad only proves how well he played his role in this play.

Just wanna say steph that you are 100% correct about the vagueness...but I think that was the point (doesn’t mean you have to like it of course)...bcuz orochi gave kanjuro such a vague mission (become a kozuki retainer and give him updates on any plans) it was all left to chance. All orochi knew was that oden was the heir to the throne. He didn’t know things were gonna happen the way they did but he knew oden was the heir...but as we have seen orochi is extremely patient and resilient so he was going to take that chance...I’m sure if oden never came back he would have devised a new plan with kanjuro. But at the same time...kanjuro had spent so much time with oden that he, along with the other retainers, knew oden would come back some day.......I heavily agree that the old lady offscreen death was whack and hope they fill in some blanks cuz high key low key none of this would have happened bcuz of her
