Re: this never ending rhetoric around china: Phil, 90% of the time i agree with whatever you’re saying, but this whole “china will never be x” is really an impossible statement as far as predicting history. Do you really believe that you can surmise what the world will look like in a thousand years? Or even in 100? It’s a silly hill to stand on and really sullies your argument, at least for me, and I even agree with your point if we are speaking about the near future. Just say for the foreseeable future, in our lifetimes, or something along those lines. That way we don’t have to get metaphysical.

NO SCI-FI I haz sad that Phil didn't detect the ironising element in my use of Wordsworth and that in my nostalgia I was really agreeing with the idea that 'You can't go home again (pace Solomon Roth).
