Hey, folks!

Super busy month once again, lots of things happening, so I've been putting off the dev updates and here we are. But hey, at least this month's only dev update is going to be on a larger side!

There's a new update concerning the Android version! Please scroll down to read it!

Artbook

Probably the main event of this month, the Summer Splashes (aka the Beach Episode) Artbook is now out! You still have a few days to grab it, then it'll be gone if not for good, then at least for a long time. The first revision is now out in its own post and you can grab it right now if you're a Friend or higher level Patron. Then in the first days of July everyone who got in on the special offer will get the second revision of the artbook and a number of bonus images.

The artbook itself contains 18 artworks, 3 for each girl just like the last time. There's even a plot! Sort of. You get to the beach, and then the girls get comfortable. And by comfortable I mean naked. This time we also made a few alternative clothing combos as aforementioned bonus images. Don't know about you, but I find sheer clothing with no underwear kinda (very) hot.

What I'm saying is, grab the artbook! While you still can! Anyway.

v0.6.15 and more

The alpha of v0.6.15 is pretty close to being done. We have plans for three or four new events for this update, at least two should make it into the Alpha. A big day for Cait is coming, and we'll be making a trip to MC's world once again.

Cait will tell you a few things about herself she hasn't told before. And then, after a bit of deliberation and hesitancy she'll ask you to make another trip. And if we will be able to fit it in, we will make that trip, this time into the University. There's a little garden hidden within its walls, and there is a certain person in there, and he just might have some answers for Cait.

Other than that we have amassed a handy helping of remasters of older events, and we'll start putting them in in 0.6.15. Naomi's main cowgirl sex scene was rough in more ways than one, and the remastered one should be much easier on the eyes. Cait's early events are also getting a fresh look. And her reveal spell will have a much more aesthetically pleasing result.

We're still working on a Yona's special set of events and we're almost done with the next story push outlines. Expect some major happenings in the near future!

And we'll soon reveal the thing you've been waiting for since last year. It, uh, changed a bit in the process, but I hope you folks will be happy with it.

Tech news

After all those years we are moving to RenPy 7.6.1. Woo! It might fix some issues with animation playback and, uh... that's basically it. On a more serious note, the newer version will let us use newer features if such need arises and hopefully improve the general stability of the game.

The good news is, the desktop versions are ported and working very much fine in our testing. But there is a problem with the Android version.

Android update

Folks, thank you so, so much for your comments and suggestions! Thanks to Gil3D and TD I was able to basically copy the solution used in Pale Carnations. Starting from 0.6.15 the game will be split into the launcher APK (which should remain static for at least a few versions), and the single RPA archive containing all the data. Hi-res version is coming back to mobile as well! Woo!

Oh, and you'll be able to freely move the saves between PC/Mac and Android once again! Double woo!

The original part of the post is saved for posterity below.

The new Android API targets explicitly forbids APKs bigger than 2Gb in size. I can still build APKs with the older SDK for a version or two, but this is not a viable long-term solution. And even then the compressed version will eventually become larger than 4Gb, and then it's game over.

Unfortunately, the most promising alternative solution turned out to be unworkable. There is one last ditch option, but it goes beyond my technical knowledge and so far I couldn't find anyone with suitable expertise. Still holding out hope, though.

So here's the question for those of you who are playing on mobile. Will you be fine with using JoiPlay for the time being? After they updated the launcher a few versions ago the game should be fully functional there.

The only other somewhat realistic option right now is to recompress the entire game to fit into 2Gb, but it'll be a gnarly affair. So please cast your vote in the poll, and we'll see what can be done.

Just to clarify the options:

  • I'm only playing on PC/Mac - should be self-explanatory
  • I know about JoiPlay and will use it no problem - if you really have no problem with playing AHITR on mobile via JoiPlay
  • I know about JoiPlay and will not use it - if JoiPlay is a dealbreaker for you
  • I don't know about JoiPlay and will check it out - please come back and change your vote after you do
  • I don't know about JoiPlay and I don't want to - if basically any kind of 3rd party solution is a deal breaker for you
  • I will play a very gnarly recompressed version - if you're okay with even worse compression for mobile
  • I just want to see the results - I mean... You do you.

Please note that you can select multiple options!

The Android version update is before the italicised part.

And see you soon!

Goddammit I really want the artbook but I can't get it rn :'(

Joi play is easy to use but I don't wanna lose all my stats and start over

I basically only play these games on my desktop because it's just so much nicer an experience. I do have JoiPlay and have played some games that way (usually ones without a Mac version), but I generally find the on-screen game controls are unusably small on my phone. If there's a way to make sure the buttons and such are larger on small devices then I think JoiPlay is a fine option. On another note, have you talked to TD and GIL of Pale Carnations? They have a game + patch method working for Android builds of PC. Perhaps they could point you in the same direction for AHITR?

Don't now why Joiplay don't work on my actual Phone.

Roque

I have heard of joiplay but never used it is where can I get it from ? I don't mind trying it

Grimlar

I would prefer to go down the rpa route that estrada777 and wills747 have been using in their larger ports to bypass the 2gb limit. Perhaps one of them can offer help to make it workable. Otherwise I'll try gnarly.

Zanith

Apparently I was just unaware of possible solutions. I'll try asking them, thanks!

Will the PC version compiled with RenPy 7.6.1 still provide a 32-bit version? If not, though I'm currently playing on my PC I may have to switch to Android - though unless anyone knows how to port a save file to the current place under Android that would mean starting the game from the beginning again.

Zanith

Well, there is a 32-bit exe in the built package. Unfortunately, I can't really test it since I don't have a 32-bit OS, but it seems to be working.

Cu Chulainn

I don't want to use Joiplay. Splitting the game into an APK and a rpa is a way better solution. The .rpa can have a large file size and the APK can be smaller.

Hurley

It's available in the Google Play Store, or you can side load it from their Patreon page.

Hurley

Depending on your android device, you may not be able to play 32 bit games there, either. Google is aggressively pushing to sunset 32 bit software across the board.

Chasenspacen

I've already got too many launchers as is, I'd much prefer to avoid another one.

John Hall

My Android device is - I assume - 64-bit. I didn't even realise that there was such a thing as 32-bit Android devices. I'd be playing the standard Android version of the game if I decided to go down that root.
