This month we have a cute gentle giant...

It's time for our pin-up, everyone!

> I wanted to make a cutesy scene of a mitey familiar giving destroyer a flower! It's pretty much a character centric composition, so I didn't stress much regarding the background.

> Polishing the thumbnail!

Official art of him beardless paints him with a big jaw, so I wanted to draw it first.  When working with beards and hair, it's easy to get lost in the volume they are supposed to have, so a nice tip is to be mindful that they are growing from the skin. Notice how I tackled his hair - you can actually see the scalp underneath! working with "see throughs" is very useful in times like this, and it's what I intended for his beard.

> Beard done and background is more polished!! I tried making an architecture element that is featured on the official art but OOF art for this game is so detailed! I had fun exploring it....

I also thought it made more sense for the destroyer to be on the left in the pic. We read pictures from left to right, from the upper part to the lower one so I wanted to take advantage from that by doing a better placement of the focus of the composition!

> Lineart for the boys! Been experimenting with making the outline thicker than usual. The contrast between widths is nice to the eye, in my opinion!

>Rendered the background! I noticed how prevalent the sky blue was in the concept art, it ended up bleeding into my piece. For backgrounds I usually tackle a deeper blue so it was a nice change of pace. The red flag against all this light blue is such an interesting element!

> Flatss!

> Here I started setting up my hard shadows. As the piece is mostly blue, I thought it could be interesting to play with a more reddish-brown shading to generate contrast.

Notice the soft shadows in the background are actually bluish - I want to further differentiate the background and foreground planes by the use of color!

>Secondary shadows! The brown-red aspect of it is easier to see here.

> Here was the finished piece before noticing that the Destroyer actually has body hair! Back to the drawing board with you, you cute fuzzy hunk.

And that concludes our monthly pin-up post. I'll be opening the voting for the next character on the 1st!
