 Heya everyone!!

How you're doing? The year has been slipping through my hands... it's said that as mercury and jupiter are out of retrograde, things will go by faster, but good things are coming! I'd like to believe that.

Going to start this post with some personal stuff, so if it's not your thing you can skip ahead! (:

I think I've been feeling kinda burnout to be honest...! I've been working on the second chapter everyday, but focusing and finishing has been very difficult. You know, when you enter that state of flow? That has been rare lately.

I'm working on this though - my therapist advised that I could get some hobbies to get my head out of art for a second. I also may make a little trip to refresh my energies?? I think I'd go to Rio, it could double as a research trip as Rio is full of cool architecture (I always look out for references on it!)

I don't know if this kind of update is interesting, but I'm always concerned to bring content here, and I feel bad when I don't do it regularly. Don't worry about it though, I'm providing a solution!

Now that aside, let's start this page process post!! Those sets of pages were really challenging but I learned a lot! Let's start right!

The challenge starts here at page 06. I can say it's my first ever crowd scene! At least from what I remember. I could tackle it with featureless figures (and I did it as it went far from the viewer) but this was the first time I'd introduce the worldbuilding elements of different nations. The characters had to be little curiosity appetizers of those places! That's a very important aspect of this story, so I had to take a bit more of care to show it off!

The obstacle though is... how am I supposed to tackle this??? which angle??? I did a bunch of tests for this.

Things to be taken in consideration in this composition:

  •  Arsene should be shown entering the already bustling pub, as he was knocking the door to enter it in the previous page;
  • Lady Hemp has a speaking role and as a entertainer doing a show here, she should have a position that everyone can see her but she couldn't be the whole center of the attention in the composition.
  • Lots of people from different places interacting and actually having fun.

This iteration, along with the other after it, was set more from above. Arsene would be entering from the door at the left. This was scrapped because it would be a cool shot to estabilish the pub as the place the story is at, but not for the characters, that would be too far to actually put in detail. Also the crowd would be FAT here.....

In this one I started considering a mezzanine. Mezzanines are fancyyyyy.

Here I thought of a more one point perspective approach. Those are easy to work with and effective if you know how to do it.

> Here's an awkward mix of the first and second iterations. Lady Hemp would be at the runway in the middle. Arsene would still be coming from the left.

> back to upfront one point perspective... And here I'd stay LOL

> Final rough for this panel!!! Arsene would be arriving in the bottom left... that way I also don't need to draw the door again LOL

If you squeeze your eyes, in the other rough sketches you can see Lady Hemp was hanging from the chandelier fdsfdsfds....,,,,

For the background elements, I wanted to make some resources to make the work of upcoming pages easier. Besides this pansy rail (that I only used in page 06 in retrospect sigh) I did the stained glass and luxurious velvet curtains that occur frequently in the background.

In page 07 I was experiment using different brushes for the linework. I actually enjoy the thin lines for certain stuff.... still getting decided on that, but you can notice from here on I started mixing them more. (the hanging chandeliers are also props, but I didn't save them separately!)

I have a personal creed - I won't redo anything in a finished piece, instead of doing that I'll focus on what I got wrong and do better in my next.

But I didn't do iterations and studies for the butterfly character... and it was kinda ugly, it annoyed me so bad I redid the whole fukkin panel! The panel of webisu being surprised at his memory was also moved up.

This was the only page I did so far that needed an intervention like that, and I reeeeaaaaally hope I don't need to do stuff like this again.

I was looking forward to working in this pageeeee!!!! The babel juice special effect is something that has been in my head every since I started this project. You can see the circles I've set to help me with this composition!

And that's it for this this post! Thanks everyone for keeping up with me! <<:
