May Pin-up - Joseph Joestar (Patreon)

Hey everyone, what's up!!

Here's our monthly pin-up... It's a character I really like!

Initially I wanted to do something cutesy romantic with Avdol and Joseph (because I ship it) but I preferred the idea of playing with Bastet's magnetic curse, in a cheeky, fun, sexy way!

> Which led to this thumbnail......  I honestly didn't want to stress a bunch with perfection for this pic so all I needed to know was that it had a suggestive pose and cute borders with Bastet's motif!

>Structure pass!! Also tested out a bit of the ornamentation in the borders. I chose to pick the cool jagged circuit like motif featured on Bastet's design over Heritage for the Future.

> Doing the clothes for Joseph! doing them in low opacity help me really seeing how to do the drapery.

> And now for Avdol.... as he's secondary in the composition I admit I really didn't spend much time detailing his outfit, otherwise I think it'd be distracting. I want the eyes of the viewer on Joseph!

> Face time!!!!!! Wanted a funny exaggerated expression for Joseph, but for Avdol I had a strange feeling... he's such a serious character, it kinda annoyed me to have him with such a silly expression. I'll change it later, you'll see!

> Here's the finished "clean" sketch that.... is kinda rough isn't it?!

> Started with the elements in the border that, in theory, are the most in the foreground.

> You may have noticed in the sketch that I only did the border in one of the sides....that's because I only need to do it once! I did the outlet's side first, then just copy and pasted with a horizontal flip. Work smart y'all!!!

> Lineart without the weight pass! For now it's already looking cute!

>Polishing and putting some weight on the lineart. Wanted to bring Joseph closer to us!

> Rendered the background.... lots of electricity and tension!!! also doing the iconic "OH! MY! GOD!" was fun as heck LOL

> Color sketch for the boysss... I ended up picking lots of warm colors to counter the overall electric cold blue palette. I initially thought on making Joseph's underwear with an UK flag motif but ended up picking the pattern on his signature scarf when he was younger.

> Flats...................................................................🙄 Also noticed Avdol's different head? I think it's better here... surprised, curious even, but still trying to maintain his cool.

> Rendered the primary shadows... Picked a "lighting from below" situation for their faces to bring the tension element to the scene!

> Secondary shadows! I chose to render his body with a soft brush so it looks smooth to the touch.... in contrast, their faces have super hard shadows!!!
