Wanted to talk a bit on where I am with development regarding the project!

The character designs are like... complete I'd say! Whenever I change something, it's a very small detail. WELL... the alchemist has an alchemy gimmick that needs a device to work - and I've been obsessed trying to find the perfect design!!!

It's honestly something that is being very very challenging to me, and it's taking so much time...................... it appears in the first pages so I can't start the story without it - which is a bummer because I have the characters done, the script set up and in this time that I haven't decided the design for the device, I made lots of other stuff that will help me along the way, such as designs for background characters, tiles and propaganda for background worldbuilding... but this alchemy device..... It's agonizing!!! I want to start so bad, but I just have a difficult time figuring it out how it's supposed to look!!!!

I'll compile all the plates for the device once I find the design I want (I'm honestly tired of it, it's been occupying my head the whole month LOL) and you guys will see all the iterations. In the meantime, here's some experiments I've done with his gimmick, including an alchemy circle that I designed - it's written "Quod est superius est sicut quod inferius, et quod inferius est sicut quod est superius."

I think working in the monthly pin up will help me clear my head and bring a cool idea - I have only drawn Apparition related art this month!!!! I already have a lot of love for this project, but I can't burn out before starting the pages right!!! (((:

Here's some boys rocking casual clothing! (not setting based)

Well….how about a few broad questions to try and narrow your scope and filter out the stuff you definitely don’t want: Are you wanting the alchemy device to be room sized, large, human sized, handheld, pocketable/wearable? Given the subject and the alchemist’s design, going Steampunk is the obvious choice….buuuuuuut maybe yoink in inspirations from other sources so it’s not just “Steampunk art pack #614”. Like, maybe some anachronistic cyberpunk or future tech features here and there, even if it’s just “important-looking but wholly unnecessary glowy cables and lights.” Or maybe go really weird and there are inexplicable (but clearly essential) plant components like vines, leaves, and flowers. What’s A’s financial status and sense of style? Well off and fancy? Decorative assemblages that maybe prioritize form over function. Comfortably middle class? Functional, unremarkable materials, and a very pragmatic sensibility all around. Hard on his luck? Second or third hand parts, and mechanics that are clearly cobbled together from disparate machines to serve a new purpose. And don’t forget the “Rule of cool.” If Idea X for its design makes you go “That would be awesome”, put it in! And then prune it off if necessary once you’re in the editing and refining process. Some inspiration resources to perhaps look at once you’ve got the bandwidth for them: “Girl Genius” webcomic; “Exalted” rpg, particularly First Age tech; items and things from D&D related to psionicists; “Shadowrun” rpg for a blend of tech and fantasy. Whatever you come up with, you got this :)

No burnout! Nothing wrong with stepping away. But it is great to see you working on a project that you're really passionate about :)

I thank you for the concern Ace, but I promise I'm being responsible okie!! Last year I had a serious burnout and now I'm taking a lot more care. I started the pinup yesterday and I can say it's really helping me refresh a bit

Oh YEAH these considerations are all really important and interesting!! Actually I have run into many of these topics while trying to design the device...... While I don't make an in depth approach in a post just for it, I'm going to share some of info regarding your considerations huhuhu - starting that it's a field device, so it's a thing you can use on the go, always on you! I'm deciding more on the shape of it, and I explored from power tools to mahou shoujo props.... It's been a wild ride but I think it'll be worth it!! I actually tried a steampunk focused design and YES even though it does look cool it feels so generiiiiic, and I'm trying to make this project as original as possible. I even tried the plant idea too - but withe the "rule of cool" I'm trying to make other motifs work.... Def gonna look up these sources, I need to expose myself a bit more to other new media, maybe I can get a bolt of inspiration. Thanks for the interest and positivity Christian, it def peps me up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
