Doing the costume study for this one was a thing I had fun with because I honestly just like an excuse to practice historic costumes lol!

At the same time I'm playing with some Shinto imagery in this comic, I didn't want to use it too heavily. I'm already making a comic set in a culture that isn't mine, so I have to be as respectful as I can, right!

So for the costume I searched mostly for east asian iconography! The Nio and Bodhisattva from Buddhism, the Apsaras from early Vedic mythology and Fujin and Raijin from Shinto were some themes of research. A visual library is always Important, that's what I think!

Here's the sketches I've done over the initial base I developed!!

Flowy and serene drapery counterpoised with cloth holding his bulky sensual figure was the main idea! Wanted something that looked heavenly, but sexy as well. I picked a magatama necklace because the comma shapes really reminded me of rain drops!!

So lots of costumes had an energy I really liked, but couldn't use! I really didn't want some of those go to waste though, so I mixed the not accepted concepts to do the other sky spirits! I had this idea while working on their page and I think I'll mostly start using this in my work. After all I do lots of iterations, I really don't want to waste them!!!

The first one from the set above must be my favorite costume, but it covered too much of his skin.... I actually may use it in the future for a character, who knows?????

Most of the costumes were made just for the sake of practice as well, imagine if I went with this direction here hehe!!! I mean, he's cute but...

Also I made a silhouette test by accident while working on these sets! It looks slick right!
