Here's an older Space Cop  behind the scenes photo we just found. The opening shot of future Milwaukee was a matte painting done on plexi-glass by Jim from Canada, which was layered on top of an actual photo of Milwaukee. You can also see we put some miniature trees out of focus in the foreground to give the shot some depth. Later in post, Colin from Canada added cgi cars flying through the sky as well as water rippling on the lake.

Very cool; thanks for sharing! Actually, there is a shortage of VFX dudes here in the Vancouver area. I always see postings for high profile jobs at places like ILM Vancouver!

Physical matte paintings on glass were a common technique until CGI took over. Jim was the one who really wanted to do an old school matte painting.
