One thing that removing that step did was let me spend more time on the render to get it just right. It's more like painting now, and I wanted to spend extra time on this one because the first panel is one of my favorite drawings in the entire comic. I'm so happy with how it turned out that the final panel being a little wonky doesn't really bother me that much. I may make some adjustments this weekend. I'm not completely OK with the rendering Azula's chest in the final panel, but by and large I think this is good.
