Being called an "amateur" after 31 years in photography is the best compliment I can receive.
I've sampled both the film era and digital era, also in professional positions ranging from weddings to industrial photography, from events to automotive sports, from journalism to fashion...
I was printing my BW pictures in a darkroom whilst most of my models were only twinkles in their fathers' eyes.

And yet somebody is calling me "amateur".

Photography is a scientific discipline where there are right way to do things, but there is also plenty of space for personal interpretations.
Being also an artistic form, there is not only one correct way you can do it, but you can resolve any technical problem with your own style and personal approach.
What really matters are your passion and your will to learn new tricks.
Humility is the key.
Even if you don't like the style of another photographer, this does not mean it is wrong or that he is some steps behind you, it means he has found ways to solve usual problems that are different from yours, and this is not necessarily cheating, but maybe it is just a path you don't want to walk on.

Nowadays I have separated my work from my photography, and this is giving me much more freedom about how I want to approach the same old problems.
And I can concentrate on the only subject that really deserves all of my spare time: naked ladies.
I also work only with young and flawless creatures, so I have no need to make them look better than what they already are.
But my passion is stronger than ever, and that is the only thing that really matters...
This is my New Year resolution: remain an amateur for the rest of my life!
