I love the idea of a though camera with no compromises, the extreme craftsmanship involved in its design and production, I especially approve the choice of doing without the hideous tilting rear screen, because I want my cameras to be a solid piece of equipment, capable of standing the most severe treatments!

Unfortunately I can’t afford the Leica SL2-s at the moment (not just yet), but I have the next best thing: the Panasonic S1.

This Panasonic shares most of the specifications from the Leica (as well as most components, I suppose), and it even provides something more on top… like a tilting rear screen.

Even if I hate compromising the structural integrity of my camera, I must confess that I tend to use this feature whenever it is available (also with the Fujifilm X100V), because it offers uniques points of views on my subjects even for still images, and I can only imagine how useful this would be for a dedicated videomaker!

The ideal combination would be to have both the Leica and the Panasonic, and using the S1 only as a second camera body, to avoid swapping lenses too much, and for the odd ground level view from time to time.

This picture of Manya is a good example, with her figure towering over the observer, backlit, with severe flare from the lens, it all ads up to her magical appearance!
I would not have been able to shoot it without a tilting screen, angled at 90° like the waist level finder of a twin lens Rolleiflex, with the camera placed on the floor.

So, in the mean time, the S1 remains the best overall reasonably priced, full-frame, mirrorless solution for my work, and I try to get the best out of it's unique specifications.
