**SHOT-WORTHY HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

I was anticipating the 8th episode being wild, and Fujimoto did NOT disappoint -- you want character development? You want ships confirmed? Sure, but NOT without a PRICE being paid -- and we have two new characters, two (possibly and certainly) dead characters, and a host of insanity as Mappa goes all out in the macabre and disturbingly beautiful elements of this episode!

I wanted to feature our two main newbies on the thumbnail, but honestly, this episode was Aki's. From him fighting the battle, to others loving and losing FOR him....I feel for our poor boy, whose tears don't seem to dry. T_T

The guy is basically the same like Denji, so maybe she just gave him blood to heal? But this episode actually made me teary eyed at the end xD so to lighten the mood, one of the extra short stories that are in the manga is really fun to know (no spoiler whatsoever, this takes place way before and just a fun extra). So Himeno asks Aki why he has his hair like a topknot to which he replies it’s because the fox Devil sometimes just wants to eat his hair (so going from what Himeno said last episode, the fox devil really is down bad lol). After that Himeno asks to also have his hair and he says no, they go drinking at his apartment, he passes out first and Himeno (being drunk) cut his topknot, to which Aku was angry the next morning when he looks in the mirror and Himeno deflects the blame and basically says „Blame it on the drunk me, sober is innocent“. So yeah a fun little interaction I wanted to share since she is gone now, I’m gonna go cry now T-T But the episode was really good as always, next week can’t come quicker ^^

I need an adult after watching this

RevoltingPeasant

You were right XD. Will you do a look at the opening agian once the season is over? Also, talked a bit about his planning for Himeno. In the initial planning stages, Himeno was meant to be Aki's sister. Finally there are some volume extras in the manga that are relevant at this part of the story. They are basically a few pages that add to the characterisation of certain characters and are not plot relevant. I hope we get an OVA of them but if you want to see the panels I can post them

Thank you so much for the comment! I have asked that I don't want to know anything related to the manga or developing the characters, because I'm afraid it will become a spoiler, so being SUPER cautious, I didn't read most of the comment. Do you mean re-watching the OP?

Makima's duality is very interesting. On the surface, she seems to be using Denji for her goals, but on the inside, she is taking care of Denji quite carefully. Makima looks normal after this crazy episode. She'll be back, right?

Thank you so much for the comment! I get VERY anxious and nervous with manga information, even if it is an extra and may not technically be a spoiler, so to be fair to everyone commenting, please don't share any manga info if that's cool? I really appreciate it and it helps me feel less anxious reading comments! Thanks for the kind words and comment, though!

romaniablack

It does seem like she is doing a small gesture to help take care of him -- so that is very true. Thanks for the comment!

Yeah I totally understand, I just thought since it contained zero context to anything important or remotely spoilery now or in the future, as a little tribute to their companionship, since Himeno died, it would be a cute positive for this weeks episode ^^ But from now on my lips are sealed, sorry if I made you anxious!

romaniablack

That was really sweet! I appreciate you sharing it and for being understanding! :) :) Thanks! I've just GOT to be safe, because I've had people accidentally spoil when they said there was "Zero Context," so I can't take chances, sadly.

Back in Ep 1, the Yakuza leader said that even the yakuza want more power, so they made a deal with a devil just like Denji did (at the time, Denji's deal with Pochita was just to help each other). Of course, their deal with the Zombie devil didn't turn out well for them. It seems that maybe the grandson had the same mindset, and found an opportunity.

RevoltingPeasant

Yeah. Exactly. Looking at foreshadowing. For the rest of my comment I understand not reading it so no worries but I think some of what a mentioned may be of legitimate interest. If you are willing to pass it to someone you trust to check I'd be happy but if not no worries. Keep up the good work.

Your rule of 8 has never been stronger 😂 excited for you to see the rest of the season!

romaniablack

Thank you! I was SO PLEASED with how this episode went, especially in regards to the "Rule of 8!" Thanks for the kind words and comment!

romaniablack

ooohhh, that's a GREAT callback to make and would add up, given what we know so far! :D I'll have to bring that up next week; thanks for the comment! :)

Regarding Himeno's thoughts before her sacrifice - I personally don't really feel as though she thought she'd die anyway so she may as well sacrifice herself, because she had Power there healing her, and as she demonstrated with Aki while they were dealing with the Eternity Devil, Power can heal near fatal wounds due to her blood manipulation. I think Himeno just saw that Aki was about to get killed, and so she just wanted to do everything she could to save his life, even if that meant sacrificing her own. It hits harder this way, because it wouldn't be much of a sacrifice if Himeno thought she'd die anyway, right? Lol.

2022-12-31 00:29:00 I'll admit it, Himeno did a 180 from last episode and this week's. She still got issues but they're sadder rather than predatory which is how I saw it last episode, turns out she's more like Real Misato rather than Meme Misato... so of course she died right after putting the moves on a teenager. I was already picturing Denji's and Himeno's Matchmaking alliance antics and Aki just rolling his eyes because Denji would be so transparent at it and not subtle at all. And Now it's never gonna happen. 'If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans' is one on my favorite mantras and it definitely applies here, things did not go how anyone expected them did they? Those Denji & Himeno scenes lingering for so long was such an obvious death flag in retrospect but we were too distracted by what didn't happened to see what was coming. And yes, You know shit's bad when the crazy girl is cautious.

I could see that -- definitely see Power being able to save Aki after this. I do agree with you that it would make Himeno's sacrifice all the more tragic if there was a chance that she COULD have lived but chose to sacrifice herself for AKi...it just sucks because it seems "somewhat" to be in vain, but I guess we'll find out next week the resolution...maybe...it IS Fujimoto we're talking about! :) Thanks for the comment!

romaniablack

Fujimoto teaches us that trying to seduce unknowing teenagers is a clear death flag. But I do like that we get more context for Himeno's actions and it helps to solidify her as a flawed character more than a "seductress," I agree. I just wish we'd gotten that alliance play out; like you said, I could have pictured that exact thing happening! But ah...halcyon days, eh? That phrase, though; SO APT for this series, eh? And yeah, POWER airing on the side of caution is a VERY ominous sign, indeed. Thank you for the comment!

Ray Quigs

It seems kind of ironic....Power's role in these group battles has been mostly as a cleric!

romaniablack

Right?! I had not pictured Power to be in this role when we first met her character; it's a nice subversion on Fujimoto's part! Thanks for the comment!
