These past few episodes have been heartbreaking, as Violet goes through the stages of grief with the presumed death of her Major, Gilbert. Violet learns the power of a letter through getting her first one, and between that, confronting the memories of Gilbert she has, and asking Hodgins, "Do we have the right to live?" -- This episode was a straight up GUT PUNCH of emotions.

And we're just getting into the final "act" of the series...I'm not sure I'm ready for what's to come. But Violet at least knows that she's important to so many around her...and that's what counts, eh?

This was the first episode where I took note of that stuffed dog since the first episode. Rewatching the series, I realized that it's present in just about every episode, and its location/orientation in Violet's room changes throughout the story (movies included). At the start, it's on the floor, then it migrates to her bed in episode 2, then onto the table, etc. It's fascinating how it's used throughout as a sort of metaphor for Violet's development.

Oh WOW, I hadn't even thought about the location of the dog this whole time and it correlating with Violet's growth -- that is so cool! I was really nervous she was going to rip it, but then, that would tie with her trying to hurt herself. :( Great note, there!

I think the reason for Violet always biting on that brooch is her having a trauma missing Gilbert and trying to save him using her teeth.. as she tried to evacuate him after loosing her arms.

Also, regarding your question of how Cattleya is also burning: I think this is an attempt to reference the light novel. If I recall correctly, there Cattleya was also in the military, which is part of why she 'gets' Violet more than most others. This isn't the case in the anime, but for whatever reason they chose to carry over small details such as these without giving the whole story. Cattleya and Benedict's 'fights' are another such detail that they carried over incompletely.

Oooooh, wow, that's a good point - I thought it was that she couldn't "feel" anything with her hands since they weren't her "real" ones, so she was biting the brooch to get that sensation, but that makes a lot of sense, too!

Ooooh, interesting -- that has me really excited to read the light novel once I'm finished with the series! :)

If you are going to read it, definitely wait after finishing the main series to start volume 1. The order is very different, so you could spoil yourself. After that, watch the movies, and only then continue the LN.

Good to know! I'll probably watch the series and the movies before tackling the light novel -- hopefully, I can read the light novel before the livestream and talk about it, then. :)
