**Headphone Warning Towards the End**

Episode 7 reduced me to tears, but this episode crushed my SOUL. Violet, I feel so badly for you, girl! And Gilbert -- I didn't expect to see the emotional roller coaster he's on versus Violet's cold demeanor slowly blooming alongside Gilbert. Couple that everything coming full circle from episode one and the added grief of the present timeline and THAT CLIFFHANGER?!

Show....the "Rule of 8," y'all. The Rule of Episode 8. It's gonna getcha.

Another great reaction and discussion. As for Violet not speaking in the beginning, I think it's implied she didn't yet know how to, rather than as a result of being told to keep quiet. When she first speaks, she mistakenly points to herself and says 'Major,' which suggests she didn't actually understand what the words 'Violet' and 'Major' refer to. Her first few complete sentences are also mispronounced, as one would expect of a child just beginning to speak. All to say, I think speech in general is yet another thing Gilbert taught her. I also tried translating what it said on Gilbert's gravestone, and it's something like "Here Leidenschaftlich's hero [...]." The last word is difficult to translate, but seems to have something to do with "standing in for," presumably in reference to the fact that his body isn't actually there. The book Violet reads is simpler: "The Stupid Thief and the Potato Sack, Wurttemberg Publishing." The title and cover featuring a blonde girl make me wonder if this is somehow a reference to how Dietfried kept Violet in a potato sack.

Thank you so much for the kind words!! Yesss, it's so sad but sweet that she didn't know how to talk and that Gilbert taught her. @.@ Oooohhh, that makes sense, because they don't have his body...and that book is a neat "inside" Easter egg to how Diethard found Violet, if that all checks out. UGH. This episode was so good! I'm so nervous for Episode 9, though!

2021-10-19 03:18:00 When I saw how much video was left near the end of the episode, for like half a second I thought maybe you were like "eff this!" after the cliffhanger and watched the next ep. XD This one really is just the show gently cradling our hearts and lovingly crushing them. Gilbert & Violet's history is so beautiful and sad, especially coming after we've seen her begin to grow into the person he always hoped she could, but he doesn't get to see. *sniffle*

Hahahaha!! There have been times in series, I've felt I wanted to watch the next episode right afterwards, so I understand. I almost needed a breather after this one, despite it ending on a cliffhanger! @_@ Yessss, he hasn't gotten to see her do what he wanted her to do! And grow like he hoped! *shakes fist in the air* It's not fair! T__T
