Enjoyed your hero’s journey analysis! It’s a good reminder of how the story goes! We see it all the time and I think we forget the structure because it’s so ingrained in how we process stories. It does help a story make sense and move forward. Bubbles of futility! It’s a more understated chapter, but also a fan favorite. Why is Gut’s metal are bandaged up? I really have no idea! To keep it dry and not rust? Just a guess, I’d say get the oil can out and do some tin man action on it to keep it from rusting. Then he jumps in the ocean. Now, I know it’s frustrating to have Casca take a dip in the ocean as well. How did she get here? She was watching a bird and the bird was walking on the “plank”. She followed it out there and then Guts got scared that she would fall and…. Well, it spiraled out of control and she ran from him, into the sea. 🤦‍♀️ Miura, Why!? The message of the chapter of things lost in the past changes a person and they may never be the same again. It reminds me of how people can change in a relationship. We are not the same people we were 30 yrs ago to who we are now. We are the result of all our wounds, scars and experiences that make you, you! Personally, I would never give up any of the things that have happened to me, both good and bad! Who knows if Rodrick gave Guts mouth to mouth! A rescuer’s got to do what they got to do! I find it amazing they could save his arm. That must be heavy! I’ve had a weight belt for scuba that had pulled me down before! It’s terrifying how metal can sink you! ( it was to test getting out of the belt, I lived) Do we get more Rodrick eye candy? Well, that would be spoilers, now wouldn’t it! 😉 Talk about fantastic men! We got who Rodrick really is, Sir Laban’s heroic action and the wise caution of Silat! Since we are with our traveling party a lot, it’s good to give some of the limelight to our minor males! I love them all! I almost feel Farnese’s frustration with Casca and how she is just a shell of a person, kinda mirrors our own in a way. Just thought I’d point that out. At least that is how I feel. Then Casca sees Farnese cry and wants to help, thus trying to wash her own hair with the bowl of water on the head. She is trying, but it’s just not enough. I do like how both Farnese and Schierke deal with their feelings for Guts. Do they like him? Of course! Do they love him? Of course! But it’s changed. I think they know him and Casca a lot better now and are also learning about how they relate to the both of them. To me everyone’s relationships have matured. Plus people don’t give Isidro enough credit for his own growth because he can be silly. The character that Puck is in the apple barrel is in a ‘70’s anime of Treasure Island. ( you probably know this by now!😉) I mean, do we even need complete paragraphs? Miura says no! Just pictures. The church is very similar to Notre Dame de Rimes. It does have that Pass Over feel to it! Good catch! I just can’t imagine what that thing would look like irl. It is a Typhon, which is a monster in Greek mythology I believe. The art in this section is just lush! Definitely museum worthy! The depiction of Ganishka is just a flex I’m happy to indulge in. Going on vacation next weekend! Husband wants chicken fried steak in another town in central Texas. I’m game! The very small town we are going to has a railroad museum and I love a good antique store too! Thank you! And yes, it being so “ingrained” is such a great way to put it about the hero’s journey! Ahhhh, I hadn’t thought about that with the arm bandaged - but SALT - I bet it was to keep it from getting salty and corroded. Thank you for noting that! But yes, Miura…why has Casca been the only one to get into these situations…haha! I do like that message of Guts and Casca not being the same people they were before, but despite the scars, that might not be a bad thing! I’ll have to talk about that down the road with a future reaction! But I agree with you, there! Hahaha, I will keep in my head canon that Roderick “saved” Guts the best he could. And Scuba Diving TERRIFIES me, so kudos to you for that! If we get more Roderick Eye Candy, I will be ALL for it! Give us a double-spread, Miura! ;) Roderick and Silat, I love particularly in this series and Laban’s got it going on. 😀 YES, Farnese’s frustration with Casca very much seems aligned with the audience’s! That’s a good point! I can agree with that. I agree with Farnese and Schierke on their evolving appreciation and maturation of their relationship with Guts and YES!!! I will talk in future volumes about Isidro, but I’m proud of the little guy and how much he’s subtly growing in this series as well! That’s such a good reference to Puck with the anime Treasure Island - I’m going to save that link for a rainy day, thank you! 😛And for the info on the Notre Dame de Rimes! I DO appreciate the art of Miura and how he uses it as a visual medium for his storytelling; he definitely is a master at that! And yes, the entirety with Ganishka and the transformation – Miura is definitely flexing his skills as an artist for us the audience! That vacation sounds like fun! I will be honest, I had a lot of expectations with Volume 34 and while the artwork is GORGEOUS (some of Miura’s best), I was disappointed/frustrated with a lot of the volume. Maybe I’m more suited for piracy! 😛 But I hope you have a great trip and TALLY HO!
