Man, the last episode was QUITE the set up for this one, because there was a LOT to discuss in terms of Miki, his actions, motivations, KIRYUU BEING...WELL, *points to episode* and Utena having to defend Anthy's right to be able to do as she pleases, even if she contends that it still has to be whatever Utena lets her do.

I love that the first character we get a duel with is Saionji, a very physically abusive person, who wants to control Anthy. Then we jump into the nicest person (at least up to this point of the show) in the group, who is so gentle and pure. But that does not mean that Miki does not want to control Anthy in his way. Two very opposite personalities, but still similar in this aspect. From the last episode, Miki keeps reacting to weird animals Anthy keeps like "That is such a Himemiya thing to do", which is nice. But like, he barely knows her??? He decides that he likes Anthy before he even gets to know her, but he just likes her as a blank slate he can project his sister onto. Then we learned that even that image of his sister is not true, and that is a projection too! Dude, you have problems 😭

Yesssss, both wanting control, but coming at it from very different angles! I definitely am appreciating the show giving us that so far! And ah, yes, that’s a great point too with the animals - he’s already decided what he wants to project onto Anthy, so the parts of her that are odd, he just accepts as “part of it.” Yeah….the Student Council….have ISSUES. So I started this show and hope to catch up soon! Maybe a week or two more, but it really made me think about another show, don't know if you already have seen it, Princess Tutu. It's another more classic feeling anime, released ~2002, but could fit right into the '80s alongside this. The similarities I think are akin to what made you think of Hanako-kun, and then there's the humor, Princess Tutu really delivers some great lines from time to time, I think something that comes more naturally in older anime. Anyway, if you haven't seen that show, I do hope one day it makes it to reactions! Along with all the others on that long, long list haha! And I enjoyed the reaction to the first episode, but I'll be back again with current episodes whenever I catch up!
