I'm glad you researched why the head lady-in-waiting dropped the vase. It shows a person that is both kind and protective of the ladies who work under her (and not afraid to to take measures to help her ladies). There is so much humor in this episode. From MaoMao's reaction to Jinshi, MaoMao's reaction to being a poison taster and Gyokuyou's reactions to both how MaoMao reacts to Jinshi and then her reaction to the effectiveness of the aphrodisiac. I am already looking forward to rewatching this entire series with you.

In the Opening the white/night sky outfit I did first think they might have been inspired by some Middle Eastern style dress. It kind of gives me belly dancer vibes. Well done on guessing Maomao would become a poison taster! It does make me laugh though at everyone's concern for Maomao only for her to be as happy as a pig in muck at the possibility of taste testing for poison, and being the one to have inflicted the wounds on herself. I feel like it does immediately make you more trusting of Consort Gyokuyou's ladies-in-waiting. When Maomao said she's not suited to detecting poison, I always took it to mean that because she's developed an immunity to a lot of poisons she wouldn't have the same reaction to said poison if the consort or someone else was to eat said food. Her training though, as shown when taste testing some of Consort Gyokuyou's food this episode, means she'd be able to potentially spot different poisons by sight, smell, or taste/effect they have in her mouth. The concubine who invited Jinshi to her rooms for tea, even if she knows he's a eunuch this would have been an indiscretion whether he's capable of being able to be sexually active or not. It would be seen more as the act of inviting a man (who is neither her 'husband' [i.e. the emperor], a family member, or a eunuch specifically attached to her service) into her private chambers late at night. Laughing so hard at you researching on if eunuchs can be sexually active 😂 Your research for this series is *very* different from your Makishima Book Club research 😆 Gaoshun is not here for his superior's humiliation/masochistic kinks 🤣Jinshi barricading his door in case the military officer who gave him the laced baozi always makes me laugh so hard. I adore Gaoshun's voice. It definitely has that deeper baritone quality like Takeuchi Ryouta who voices Ushijima. I adore Consort Gyokuyou. This episode definitely shows a bit of the sense of humour she has. But poor woman got traumatised by the idea that Maomao's chocolate could make the Emperor last longer in bed 😆 The moment between Jinshi and Maomao I feel like part of it was him still trying to capture her under his sway (like nearly all the other ladies in the rear palace are), but also a very effective distraction technique so as he could subtly steal one of Maomao's snacks (one is missing; there were six after the ladies-in-waiting indulged and then only five were left on Maomao's plate after Jinshi thanking her). The jump scare ending 😂 Great way to end an episode and leave you intrigued for/wanting more. Love your comparison of Yinghua, Guiyuan and Ailan to Flora, Fauna and Merryweather! They're definitely giving off the sweet, considerate vibes. Hongniang though immediately became my favourite with her sly way of making Maomao's kidnappers have to make financial restitution instead of gaining money for Maomao's services in the rear palace. I have seen a few people react the same way as you with that scene. For me it was mostly Maomao's seiyuu tone of voice in that moment that explains the true meaning behind the whole scene the best. Seiyuu for this episode: Hongniang, Yinghua, Guiyuan and Ailan (Consort Gyokuyou's ladies-in-waiting)I don't believe you've seen anything they've voiced other characters from. Gaoshun's seiyuu however is Konishi Katsuyuki, and he's also voiced Hisagi (Bleach), Kurokawa [former team captain for Karasuno] (Haikyuu!!), Uzui Tengen (Kimetsu no Yaiba), and Dreyfus (7DS).

I loved your impromptu ‘part of your world’ parody, it was very fitting 😁 Gotta love MaoMao! She’s got so much depth and fun facets to her personality and they shine through in really entertaining ways. Love the reaction to her and Jinshi’s budding relationship too. The comparison to the smolder is very accurate too. In that one scene I can almost hear him thinking ‘she’s not swooning? Have I broken my smolder?’ Then he looks at the ladies in waiting and they react like normal and he’s like ‘no no the smolder is fine’ 😆 Thanks for the video!

Fun fact Māo (猫) means cat in Chinese so her name literally translates to cat cat. The cat animations like the glare and chills are perfect!

Phys ed with Romania is a little different than the one I was taught in school! Hahaha! Such dedication to science, I love it! I haven't seen Dr. Stone, but I get the comparisons. I can't wait for you to get further in this series, it's so good! Nice work catching more details from your initial vase reaction, this show does not always explain everything out too clearly all the time!

Yes! I definitely want to research after the episode (when I can without spoilers) the parts that I'm not sure about - that helped a lot in the discussion! But I loveeeee the humor and how MaoMao and Jinshi's dynamic is developing! I can't wait to see where their relationship takes us, so thank you for that and the comment and kind words!

I can see the belly dancer vibes; they’re both so beautiful! Seriously, MaoMao is the queen of making lemonade out of lemons right now! I love her little pig face animations. It does still make me sad at her self-harm, but also makes me endeared to her. And yes, I do worry that her “immunity” to poison could let something past, which concerns me for her, but hopefully that doesn’t happen! But yes, at least she has ways to detect poison through her other senses as well. Makishima’s book club lives on through Apothecary Diaries, just with a danmei-inspired twist! ;) MXTX would be proud! But yes, Jinshi the “traitor” detector! Gaoshun is so adorable - I love him already. His VA has a deeper baritone as well. And yes, Jinshi definitely seems to have a masochistic/humiliation kink! I do feel for him barring the door as well; it makes me wonder about Jinshi’s past. Oohhh, so Jinshi DID steal one of the aphrodisiac snacks - thank you for pointing that out! Gyokuyou is so beautiful and kind-hearted, and yes, with a sense of humor! And yes, the ending here left me wanting more for sure! I love all the maids in waiting; they’re so cute and fun and I can’t wait to see them interacting with MaoMao! Thank you for the VA information as well and the comment and kind words!
